Imperial forces bringing a world to "Compliance" is just a sugar-coated way of saying "Enslavement", no one knew this better than Angron. Your point is very well made
The first article I read, when I finally started paying attention to fluff beyond DoW, was about Lufgt Huron and what happened with the fall of Badab. There he was, turning the sector around and making actual gains, instead of just scraping by, and they targeted him and made things worse. And I love the space pirates theme of the Red Corsairs, I hope they get added in later. Beyond anything else, Chaos is freedom, the only real free people left in the galaxy. Yes, it's sorta shitty how a lot of them use it, but better dead than a slave. Plus they're just fun.
Funnily enough, I was just reading about the Red Corsairs on the Lexicanum, apparently they started out as only 200 Marines when they first turned to Chaos but currently they're the size of a pre-Heresy Space Marine Legion. What the fuck...?
They take all comers, marine and human. If you want to rebel but don't really want to join the chaos gods, they're where you go. And they take on new crewmen just like pirates used to, capture a ship and take any of the crew who want a chance to get out. The marines have swollen to pre-heresy Legion strength from defectors and growth, and they also have enough auxiliaries to sweep a table. I'm pretty sure they have stolen gene-seed from other chapters. I'm thinking of getting a bunch of pirate minis and using them as cultists. Cutlasses and auto pistols for all!!
I'd rather die on my feet then live on my knees. Plus the Dark Angels seems rather zealous (the actual players) it will be fun to execute them
