Ammo pack doesn't restore bombs so its pointless, unless your a dakka marine, melta guns are rather ammo efficient.
This one is probably because having an anti-tank class is one thing, having a class that can't do anything except against tanks is quite another.
We tried having super meltas once. It was horrible. No one was able to keep vehicles alive...unless they fought against orks. Go figure right.
There's got to be a middle ground between AV weapons being more or less useless against vehicles and melting them in a single overheat.
Thats where we are atm. They are meant to be combod with bombs for fairly quick AV. If we make meltas stronger than we go back to having roving packs of meltas preventing anyone from ever getting a transport to anywhere important. Plus if we make it less bomb more melta than it becomes to easy to just go solo for extended periods of time and AV. Atm I can only really do that with rokkits but I also trade AV speed for possible kommando AV work. However a manned vehicle is still a pain for rokkits. Its always going to be a balance issue between being able to AV reliably and not being able to keep transports alive or keeping transports alive easier but having AV be less fun and a pain in the butt.
I'd also query the damage that tanks do to other tanks/APC's as it take 2 rounds of constant fire from cold to overheat for a predator to take out a rhino targeting the most vulnerable spot (i.e. the rear) which means its often quicker to get out and use a melta/multi-melta/melta bombs than it is to park up at the rear and use the tank gun
I thought the same at first about the Lascannon but its a monster! Its wrecks! Everything else is just balance.
I personally think the Multi Melta is in a good spot right now. I just wish the Ork had some equivalent to it. Meltaguns could use some sort of buff tho. I think the cooldown timer needs to be shorter personally. I always find that I'm helpless for a bit too long after doing a full burn.
