i enjoy the fortress maps - the fights always feel more desperate to me. ive won and lost on both sides - attack or defend. tactics and communication are key to a successful match.
I enjoy fortress maps but i feel like they are teamwork-required fights where if you aren't working together you are screwing the team over. Gotta tell people to not kill the gates immediately, gotta tell people to watch their backs on the wall, gotta tell people to watch the tunnels/pipes, gotta tell Jumptroops to hit the balconies at the same time...gets old having nobody actually do any of this stuff unless you tell them to. Even so I do queue for those maps because i love a massive battle
I'm not playing EC at all the moment because imo it doesn't make sense to play with melee clearly imbalanced and a combat system full of bugs and inconsistencies. If / when the game will be updated I will consider to be back. What I can tell you is I used to skip Fortresses completely. They perform bad, and are way too repetitive and predictable like all tickets scenarios. If they don't get rid of the tickets system and if they are unable to optimize the biggest maps then Fortresses remain crap to me.
Sometimes I guess, I don't have them disabled but I have a habit of declining fortress map ques when they do pop up especially if I'm on defense, it's just not particularly fun either camping a few spots the entire game as a heavy or stand behind a heavy as a healer, playing melee is pretty much unhelpful except when the enemy is starting to push right onto A or B point and playing a tactical eq is pretty much being a less useful heavy. Oh and you can't switch up your playstyle due to tickets unless you legit die.
I vastly prefer Fortress and Hold the Line maps over Control Maps nowadays. Just, control maps are such a chore. With Fort/Hold the line ones I can shut down my brain and just enjoy the ride. I also stress a lot less when I know the match can't be won (Like Agnathio on attack) no matter what I do, so I typically just pick something I'm comfortable instead of feeling pressured to get on a capper.
I enjoy the challenge of attacking fortresses. Sometimes the constant losing gets to you, but it just makes those rare wins all the more sweet. As far as defenders always win, I beg to differ. I saw a match Eldar attacking LSM and Eldar capped B with 70 tickets left. Never underestimate the incompetence of Loyalists.
I prefer Fortress maps. They run ok for me and I like the kind of battles they result in FAR more than Supremacy. Supremacy is just two teams glomming around the map, and you are constantly telling people where they need to be and getting ignored. By contrast, Fortress and Hold The Line, people know where they're supposed to be, what they're supposed to do (for the most part), and the fights are generally interesting team fights rather than "Oh I show up at the point and am outnumbered 4:1. Gosh isn't this fun." And yeah, when I lose Fortress maps I'm generally not salty about it, it just is. Losing Supremacy though is like watching sand fall through your fingers and being unable to do anything about it. Losing Supremacy after you worked your ass off to win it because your team can't stay at a point for more than 20 seconds before getting bored.....it just feels like a colossal waste of time running around the whole map only to lose because people don't know how to read the fucking match stats to understand, maybe, hey, don't send 4 guys to cap a point you don't need to when there's 2 minutes left and if we just hold B then we....ah fuck it.
I can relate but you aren't really contributing to the discussion if you aren't playing the game currently.
Depends on if I have the time and patience. I do like being the tank hunter when defending fortress map, I hate attacking the walls on fortress maps though. Once you are attacking A or B the game feels a bit better.
