Wasn't it more that the Dark Gods deliberatily chose not to make Abby a Demon Prince because this could screw with his psyche and they needed a Champion that was not completely bonkers?

Well, Asdrubael Vect is older than The Fall itself, making him one of the oldest beings alive. Does this mean he is one of the strongest too?
As far as I remember, from the Black Legion/Chaos Codex, it says that he has resisted the eternal boon of falling to the Gods since he wants to remain undedicated. Some one will need to quote this from either Codex since I don't have them with me at the moment. Edit- ADB said he doesn't want to become one for some reason. Most likely given to us in the Talon of Horus book.
It's a pretty well known fact that if all orkz (somehow) worked cooperatively, they could overthrow the universe. They're just always downplayed in fluff as "The initial threat that hides a larger one", so really orkz are theoretically just as dangerous as chaos if not moreso if not for the fact they simply aren't so arsed to work together. That being said, it does kind of work like "They're weak so I easily squish them" but not from that perspective. Orkz can only effect themselves and their own tech with the gestalt field (Weirdboyz with psyker abilities aside) but that being said if a ork thinks his somewhat sharp chunk of metal can cut through as space marine's armor, and there's enough orkz around that think likewise, it will slice through as well as any power weapon. Alternatively if you had something of similar strength (say, an ogryn) use the same blade against the same SM, it would probably hurt, but only as much as a jagged chunk of metal swung by something strong. Hell, Ork shootas generally don't even function unless it's an ork using it and he thinks it does. * Fun fact; it's been nerfed since, but there was a point where basically if you handed an ork a chunk of metal and convinced him it was a gun, it could fire bullets. No longer that extreme, but it gives you an idea how crazy it is.
Abaddon has his own weapon, a demonic sword of incredible power. I think in that battle will win Abaddon
