I don't understand why some of the players selfish desire, blocked to add Necrons to the game. Your race in the game there, give the green light, and others. I think this survey and trade shows, how many people like Necron. Necrons > they are well armored, but not the high speed movement. Or in the time of the melee-attack will make a short-term acceleration. Classes and the mechanics of the game, they are also suitable, as well as other races. For example: Necron warrior with normal gaussian gun, Immortal heavy machine gunner, Lychguard heavy with a shield, Deathmark sniper, etc. Lychguard, immortal, Flayed, kryptek, lord(elit class) and other. The tanks can also be fit. So that there is no reason for concern. And of course, it would be good to add Tau to the game and greater customization of armor such as in Spacemarine.
for anyone who doesnt want to see another faction added to EC after launch .... bad news for you, the devs have said time and time again from day1 right up until last weeks twitch that other factions will be added to the game post launch, so get used to the idea because theres probably a damn good chance it'll happen wether you like it or not
necrons would probably use what are considered elite units on the TT just like the eldar are doing currently in EC, as for weapon variety ... theres plenty http://wh40k.lexicanum.com/wiki/Necron_Weaponry_(List) as for customisation .... they are basically walking armour and any armour can be embellished in a myriad of ways, subfaction tombworlds can be represented through armour styles, armour colours, weapon coil colours, all it takes is a minute amount of imagination and the possibilities are there to be seen
The only way I see more factions working is if they put in some sort of alliance system. This solution would only work with a couple races. Either have it so, if for example, Imperial Guard get put in, they naturally Ally with LSM, meaning, in game, if you queue as a warparty, or even solo, you can be fighting in a mixed faction set up of LSM and IG, however this system could possibly be messy. I could also see if ever the Dark Eldar made their appearance, they'd be able to ally Eldar. I'd say, if they can code it in the way I imagine it, it'd queue LSM in and LSM game first, grab as many as it could from that pool, then it'd 8ring in the IG after. Or possibly a temp alliance idea. Every week or so, alliances change. Take my idea from the end of the last paragraph, then apply it to a situation where, say, this month the Eldar are allied with: Tau and IG. This would 8e far more messy than the last, and its just grasping at straws. Either way, 4 factions is more than most games can offer, and the few we have are the absolute most iconic from the 40k universe. They could keep it like this forever, and they'd not be making a mistake, however my mind wonders how fun it would be to play a Fire Warrior in this game one day, eventually, if it is successful as we all want it to be.
Its not like we are being exclusionary, just rational. Its not a hard concept to grasp that if more factions come out, the player base will split off to play this new faction, not to mention balance changes would create a flavor of the month situation, where faction pops would shift dramatically based on who has the shiniest toy at the time, a phenomenon exacerbated by having more factions. As much as I'd love everyone's whimsy being answered, and their favorite faction added, its just unrealistic with the current stretched player base that we have.
thats why I didnt specify what faction would be added first or anything like that ... simply that new playable factions WILL BE added, so its better to argue over HOW such playable factions could be added rather then WETHER such factions should be added
Weapon variety I'll give you that, and I'm sure devs could work out different weapon bases even for the same gauss weapon like they did for other weapons like RTS chaos weapons. No doubt that. Colors is all fine and well, but I'm wondering about visual UPGRADES. i.e. marines have a variety of Mark armor. Chaos can have warp modifications and different details (like the trims having different shapes, skull/demon and other icons on spauldron, etc.). A Necron looks like a skeleton/robot/terminator (the movie), but do they have different armor TYPES. eldars have variation at least from class to class between their helmets and colors, sure you could customise Necron colors, but would different necron classes have fixed color scheme like eldar to make them stand out? If they go the elite route, eldars still have other classes available for elites (any wraithguard or wraithsomething) they have vehicles, they have rangers, they have heroes too, etc. I'm not trying to disqualify Necrons, but would we, say, have the feeling that their capping class (likely Necron warrior) has "progression" to it. What kind of upgrades could he have. What kind of armor variation/helmet/pauldrons short of changing colors. I'm afraid it take more than a minute to have a concrete picture. I am not saying it can't be done, but I haven't seen someone show me different Necron warrior looks YET (short of color scheme which is pretty basic and doesn't give that "upgrade" feeling). Of course, they do have somehwhat the same problem with eldars, they even made a thread to ask the forum about what kind of visual progress eldars would like to see. I genuinely have no idea what to do with them. What kind of embelishment are you refering too in terms of armor? Perhaps some artists already did an artwork that could come to mind? Honestly necrons all look alike to me. They don't strike to me as highly customisable (and again, I'm not going on a crusade against them, I'd actually like to see and fight them, it would really bring something interesting to the crusade). As a player, I'd like to feel I can progress with them. To give a further example, I have not seen forgeworld material to kitbash and add variation to necron warriors. The GW models all have that same look with almost the same poses. Though admitedly, they are starting to have a nice variation in terms of overall roster with immortals, deathmarks, triarch and the like. I just checked GW site and they have nice specialist infantry units (deathmarks, triarch, etc), perhaps they could mix and match pieces of their armor, add head/skulls variation with details on them, so that they become "upgrades" to regular necron warrior (or some veteran version of). I'm guessing immortals would be their heavies. Flayed ones sure look like nice ground assaults. They could also have destroyers be their heavies and have immortals being a variation of warriors I guess, since now they have other interesting vehicles that could make up for other factions tanks/transports. Basically it would be nice to have armor upgrades even for regular troops and I don't know how far GW would allow them to customize a warrior vs having each unit of a same given class looking all the same. Hope it makes my points clearer, I'm just wishing to push the discussion further so I get a better grasp of what Necron players would like. And I completely agree with you on one of your last statements, I'm not interested in trying to guess which faction is more likely to be added or to make a competition out of it where we argue over whether they should be added or not. I too would like to see how each faction would work in EC. In the end the only deciding factor if a faction will make it or not is if the game is successful enough, for long enough, and enough people would like X faction to be added. Needs all those three prerequisites. Making a faction work is just a formality, the real issue is always and always just been ressources (aka money available for development and return on investment). When there is a demand for a certain market, there are always ways to make it work.
Since my other reply was quite long and I have a tendancy for wall of texts, I'll make it a short post this time. You'll see me play the devils advocate in asking many questions but don't get me wrong, I'm all for necrons, but here are a short lists of pros and "cons" (or rather, questions to be answered, it's not my intention to disqualify them). Pros Enough units to fullfil all required roles in the game, with different look for each classes (ie: warrior=capping, immortal and or destroyer = heavy, flayed ones = ground melee, etc.) Not saying I'm the best to determine which unit should be which class, but I can see it all work. Asymetric balance: Like you suggested, being heavy armored but perhaps slower (but powerful?) in melee can all make the faction play a lot different. would their melee animation be slower or their movement speed, how to balance everything out, can't say it, I'm not good at balance, but I do feel they would definetly be able to have their own niche and playstyle, which is great. Necron in a shooter game Simply because it would be badass. Not a strong argument in theory, but in practice, the simple idea of having them and being player controlable would be awesome. Cons (rather, questions) For a given class (example Necron warrior capping class), what kind of visual customisation outside of color will you plan, can they have different head models/armor models and visual upgrades when they gain level.(pauldrons, greaves, marks/icons, etc. (I know from one class to another they ARE different, I know eldars have the same problem, I'm just asking for solutions). That was seriously my only question, how do you create a feeling of progression for each classes?
