See... now I kind of like the idea of having them as one of the standard classes more then how the Elites are described. If that is indeed how the Elites are going to work I definitely don't see a problem with them being in the game. I can't say I like the idea of Heroes and now Elites in the first place, leaving your character to play another seems rather immersion shattering to me. Thanks for the information though.
more immersion shattering them swapping classes with the same character? true for LSM and CSM thats really more of an equipment swap I guess, but for the Eldar swapping classes is very much like rolling a whole new character immersion-wise
Dark Angels without Deathwing? Why not Blood Angels without jump packs or Space Wolves without Wolf Guard? It's not exactly hard to balance them. They aren't much different than MAX suits in PS2. Yes, they have more armor and fire power, and a few tricks like teleporting. But they wouldn't get charge attacks, rolling, jumping, would be slower, bigger targets, and cost RP to deploy. On top of that, they could have other handicaps, like the inability to capture territory (they are generally not considered troops, after all), or heavy reliance on other units to keep them resupplied.
Wait a second... I was under the impression when you make your character, you pick one of the classes and that's simply what he is for as long as you have that character. I thought when I seen the list of classes you can pick from in the live streams that's just so they can showcase things they are working on, not how things will be come launch. I must have missed something major along the way here, I had no idea that's how things were going to play out and I have to say I'm honestly pretty gutted by this. Sorry Bladerunner, kind of derailed your thread a little bit here, Tarl or anyone else that can link me to threads or anything for that matter about this please PM me.
its ok, im sure bladerunner wont mind a quick catch-up post... you make a character and select a faction and subfaction (ie : LSM + Space Wolves), that character can spawn as any of the basic classes (no RP cost) every time it dies/respawns like in the BF/PS2 series, and as you play it you can progress that class through XP unlocks, elites and heros are special in that you have to unlock these classes types through progression first before you can play them and then they cost you RP to spawn as one each time, when they die you have to wait for a CD to burn off before you can play those classes again
So let me get this straight. 4 different and very distinct Chapters were sent to Arkhona. 4 Space Marine Chapters who don't like each other - Dark Angels being secretive, Blood Angels for having the red thirst, Ultramarines disliking Space Wolves for not following the codex, and so on. All these 4 unsettling Chapters, sent on just 1 tiny planet. And it is not worth the presence of Terminators? I'll say if some tiny planet - Arkhona is worth sending not 1 but 4 different chapters of Space Marines, then it must be one of the holiest, grand battles worth fighting for. Terminators are never absent from such history changing events. We need Terminators and their equivalents. MAXs is PS2 did not break the game, and were the once who broke through the enemy lines - which is the purpose of the Terminator squads. It won't be a true W40k game for me if there won't be the most iconic and heroic forms of Space Marines in it - the Terminators. They are the Emperor's finest.
I don't like that at all but that's a topic for a different thread. I understood how the Heroes worked and it's the same for the Elites now that I know about them just to a lesser degree. I see no reason we can't find a home for Terminators and their counterparts somewhere between the two, I don't see any problems in having them pre/post launch.
The poll is missing an "I want them in, but I could live without them" option between the 'who needs them ?' and the zealous orgasm option If it's a matter of will I be able to play the game happily without them: Yes If it's a matter of will the game be better off if BHVR include them: Fuck yes Sorry to come down on the fence but there are an epic shit ton of gear and units I'd really like to see added to EC and TEQs (as a class) rank highly in that list, but not in my top 5 honestly.
I voted for number two, though i actually share Laanshors missing option sentiment (aka im not cutting off my limbs in protest over it as the second option would make one think). However i find it rather lame and uncool to plaster something for a whole year in everyones face, talk about them as something confirmed in many threads (the posts in the Terminator General and the What is Combat like in EC threads, tons of them explaining Termies to the letter and the vision behind them), have them present in 2 wallpapers (one very recent one) and then put them on the "we will see" table. They werent even in the "we will see basket" (for those who are not old members they basically stated there are 3 "baskets" for everything, theres confirmed, we will see and post launch). They can bring allot to the game itself, and TDAs and their other racial equivalents arent an unpopular thing surely. So i would indeed like to see them in cause they bring a new layer to combat as walking tanks. Even though i probably will never play one, id rather put my RP to spawn something like a Possessed.
