I can still remember my first ban hammer as a moderator. Some guy who I got the vibe was quite young started posting NSFW images on our community forum, I edited them so they were clean and warned him about it. "Nah I don't see what's wrong with it, you have to be atleast 16 to sign up so get over it I have a right to post what I want freedom of speech ect." Went back to posting but this time it was hardcore Pornography so I banned him... Made a sockpuppet account to tell me he was a friend of the creator of the site and that he was going to take legal action because I deleted his posts so I IP-banned him. Never saw him again after that, the end.
I used to be a game master on a couple of games (one a browser game, the other a shitty MMORPG). Threats of legal action were so common, as were players getting obsessive with making new accounts just to abuse us. We had a bunch of tools at our disposal in the MMORPG, not least the ability to literally drop you from the sky, or teleport to somewhere you wouldn't be able to escape from, so giving us shit wasn't the best idea. Haha. Good times.
The worst thing we had to deal with here was the Space Wolves nonsense around Christmas. Other than that, this forum is fairly well behaved.
Aww, lucky, but remember you're still in the honymoon period. After release it will be all about how things need to be nerfed and angry complaints about things being different to how they see them or expectations from the hype train not holding up. I'm sure you'll all be able to handle it Those were the good ol' days
The funniest thing about these is that they have always (hopefully always, at least) ticked that box that says "I have read and agreed to the rules".
I still think the funniest part was him sending me messages saying that he knew the Founder and that I was in big trouble when he finds out while I was speaking to the Founder on Teamspeak.
I know that feel. I used to co-op run an EVE Corporation (player guild) and some asshat was talking about me in the corp chat for reasons I can't recall (it was a few years ago now.) So I poke the other leaders about it and we decide to not kick him out of the corp immediately. We just changed his rank to "Corp Asshat." He didn't last the week.
