Who here likes and use the Vengeance Storm Bolter?

  1. The problem is the Plasmagun overheats entirely too damned fast to be effective and it costs more than a bolter. It's an inferior weapon vs the Bolter in a vast majority of situations and costs MORE?!? That's not right.

    If we could fire about 10 to 12 more shots(semi auto only) with the plasmagun prior to overheating the weapon would be great. The slower speed of plasma rounds vs rolling and vs ADAD strafing the Bolter that has the larger mag will outlast you ever time in a head to head encounter.

    What would really be proper for the Plasmagun and Pistol is if they added a burning effect after each hit(semi auto only with the rifle). We are, according to all descriptions, firing off miniature super novas with each trigger pull on a plasmagun. A burning DOT is totally appropriate for the Plasmagun when being fired in semi automatic mode. The problem is that will be OP as hell in full auto mode. Perhaps we could see a mod that causes the rounds to burn but adding the mod only allows semi automatic firing mode.

    I really want to see the Plasmagun and Storm Bolter be viable options and I really hate being forced into FOTM or cookie cutter builds. Unfortunately if you want to compete the Plasmagun is out of the question. In fact today I've removed all PG loadouts, they're a waste of time and I'm purposely gimping myself by using these weapons. I still have a single storm Bolter build but I rock Bolter/CQC/Box or drum mag 99% of the time I'm not hunting enemy vehicles with a meltagun and meltabomb. The other 1% of the time I rock a Bolter/Box mag with Meltabomb if our opponents are guarding their vehicles hardcore.

    It's really a shame the Plasmagun has been neglected since the game went live. We're talking 9 months of total obscurity for an 4oK icon. Simply increasing damage wont do the trick. We tried that in Alpha and it was just better in every way to the Bolter. Part of the problem is full auto mode for the buffed damage plasmagun beats Bolter every time. This is why I'm suggesting rapid fire semi auto mode(unlike that garbage firing mode with the Stalker) with a burning ailment for all Plasma shots. This mechanic would once and for all set the Plasmagun apart from the Bolter and would make this weapon viable vs even vehicles, Terminators, or monstrous creatures because we could build up the burning ailment and keep large, slow moving object burning via a constant and steady stream of controlled follow up shots every few seconds.

    You got a point about the specialist weapons not exactly feeling like Tabletop equivalents. I agree that maybe its time for the devs to do something about rebalancing the weapons, but we need more opinions and request from the players.

  4. Damage change was nice but surely we can do better. The only problem is it still overheats way, way, waaaay too fast to be useful in most situations. With Rolling and ADAD the faster projectiles and longer sustained rate of fire bolter reigns supreme vs all.

    I'm really hoping BHVR might think outside the box perhaps and truly make the Plasmagun(and pistol to a lesser extent) really worth the LP. By adding a burning effect for both weapons when firing in semi automatic mode of fire these weapons would be more true to form as far as lore(liquid hot plasma burns stuff) and this weapon would stand apart from the Bolter.
  5. Only if it can set tanks on fire. For the lulz mostly but it might be able to contribute to a melta spearhead.

    I understand. Still, and I've said this before in many other threads, that's because of the whole lethality side grades thing they're trying to do in this game. It works in PS2 because they use slots instead of LP. In this game, you buy tactical options and get more tactical options, you buy durability gear and are more durable, you buy lethality gear and you aren't necessarily more lethal, you've just changed HOW you're lethal. So, most lethality builds are LP inefficient and therefore kinda lacking.

    If they just did away with the stupid sidegrades thing, we could just balance out the new lethality builds (within reason for weapon types) against durability builds to make them break even in a firefight. It'd be way easier and more satisfying than balancing sidegrades and BS gimmicks. For melee, this would mean higher tier melee weapons can actually be straight better without any BS, because they'd actually lose alot of durability. So in a fight, they may have a wicked weapon (that feels right to use) but a durable enemy will be able to take those hits while only putting out lighter counter damage.

    PS: Regardless of weapon, ADAD is horrible to me. I really just hate it, but that's just my preference.

    If it costs twice and is supposed to be a double bolter, it should be able to fire twice as fast. I really like stormbolters, and I tried to play them, but I get the same mileage with CQC+Drum bolter for less LPs.

    Formerly a huge naysayer on the SB, but I've been using it the last couple days and I've changed my tune.

    It's -okay-, overpriced by about 100-150LP. I think you'd be better off using a cheaper and moddable regular SB(which is also overpriced)

    Just be careful. As I stated, weapons are balanced around being sidegrades. If they buffed weapons into true lethality (as I would call it at least), they'd have to buff high durability builds to match.

    Used to be godlike, now its a complete waste of LP.
    Just use a bolter for gods sake
