Thank you, for your transparency As a part of our Warhammer community and one of the Black Templar battle-brothers, I can say that we appreciate your honesty and believe in you guys no matter what It is certainly upsetting, but we are a mature audience and we understand, especially when we get answers in a direct manner without that "public relations" bull- and masked words I do totally respect that I hope we will keep this dialogue going ..And keep trolls at bay =))
I think too many people are thinking about this from a lore perspective. Yes, the Templars aren't Codex Adherents, and neither are the Space Wolves, Dark Angels, or technically the Salamanders. Push that whole Codex issue aside for a minute and actually look at each from a game stand point. Even if they aren't to the Codex the others still have all the classes represented and can function like a Space Marine chapter overall. Space Wolves have Long Fangs (Devastators), Grey Hunters (Tactical Marines), Skyclaws (Assault Marines), Wolf Guard (Terminators), Wolf Priests (Apothecaries and yes I know they are also Chaplains but they do function as Apothecaries, no?), Blood Claws (Scouts) and Rune Priests (Librarians). And Dark Angels and Salamanders only differ in company organization. So the three of them, from a game perspective, have all the classes the Space Marine faction needs without any fluff needs really getting in the way. But the Templars have two glaring flaws. No Librarians, which can easily be solved by giving them another special class like Emperor's Champion that provides an inspiration buff or something to friendlies. But the other problem is they have no Devastators. The Devastator is not a special class or anything that requires resources, it's a primary class. The BTs are completely losing a class in their implementation. And this is not something they can just toss another class in for BTs to solve. "But, Sly, you devilishly handsome rogue!" I hear you start to type "It's a minor flaw that I choose to have, so why does that matter?". Well it matters because there has to be a balancing to keep the Chapter viable and enjoyable to people who want to play them. SO now they have to balance a single sub faction, in a faction, with that faction AND the other three factions. Otherwise angry players will be storming the forums and mail boxes as they do in every other game in history. Put simply, this makes the BT, sadly, a potential balance nightmare, one that quite frankly isn't worth it in the long run.
Grown men arguing over about one fictional chapter not (possibly) being added to the game and taking it to this kind of level.
According to the new codex, Black Templars do now include Librarians. Is this not true? I'm not entirely sure about devastators, but that issue could easily be resolved as well. Besides those points, why is it sastifactory to have a bunch of angry trolls fighting against the BT's instead? Why are you favouring one side and basically claiming us all to be angry runts? Also, I wouldn't call 2 possible class changes a balancing nightmare, that seems a bit unreasonable of a statement. There's always a comprise for things, but cutting off the limb to treat a wound is quite ineffective.
Not really. There's a fluff blurb that still says they have no Librarians on their Chapter. Technically on the rules side there's no unit limit for Chapters any more. I haven't read Sentinels of Terra though so could be there. Also where am I claiming anyone is an angry runt? Or saying it's ok to troll the BT fans? I think you're trying to play the victim card there. As for the balancing nightmare, I would call it that when you have to also factor in it's more then just the Space Marines we're talking about. How do you balance the BT's buffs that you would have to give them with the Eldar, and Chaos, and the Orks? It'd be like logging into Planetside 2 and giving the Vanu an accuracy buff, but removing their ability to spawn infiltrators. How do you balance that with multiple other factions without breaking the balance of the game? If the limb is a risk to the person, you do cut it off, that's why there's amputations.
This is what is awesome about your team and everyone current working on this project at Behaviour. The transparency shown by the devs of this game is incredible, It's an example i hope many other games studios adapt at some point in the future, It's good to hear an honest reason why the Black Templars aren't going to be included, at least not for launch and while it does suck that the Templars wont be in for launch, i and i think many others appreciate the honesty and look forward to the game more and more each passing day. Kudos to the entire Dev team.
pity its not feasible. Meantime I hope the Imperial Fists can count on the support of their Black Templar brothers in the 5th chapter vote.
With any luck they'll be put in as the game progresses. Once the devs are confident and feel like they can branch out more, there's plenty of interesting and unique sub factions like the Templars for all sides. Like some Saim-Hann Eldar.
Behavior are working with members of GW. If GW say it wouldn't be wise to represent the Chapter, that they created, to have units they didn't deem appropriate... Then so be it. You make a'lot of text for someone who has to, at this point, read a codex. You should know it. Why don't you know it? Because Black Templar is a skin you use when you play a videogame, like 90% of the BT " Fans " i meet in these forums. Anyway... Start complaining when World Eater Legion get's into Eternal Crusade. Because like BT, they decide to be different from the mainstay. " We need don't need sorcerers, blood for the blood god ". Not a good day for hipsters is it? I wonder if it's even dawned on them yet. I will take great delight in showing them what happened to BT, and what will become of them ( After managing to explain to them the similar circumstances, it may take a while! they are only Chaos ). It's never a bad day to be Eldar.
