some of the chapters you have listed aren't lost/renagade ...hell some of them dont even have depleted numbers...(the only "renegades/lost" here are the Soul Drinkers and they are destroyed...)
Iron Snakes and Crimson Fits 1) because that book was great and really got me to like an Ultramarines Successor 2) what kind of Son of Dorn would I be if I Didn't? - also they aren't lost...just Rebuilding...
SD are interesting, not too many of them left, and well they kinda upped and went somewhere wierd at the end of Phallanx. The Snakes of Ithaka are interesting as well, was nice of Mr Abnett to make them up for us.
My vote goes to the Soul Drinkers. I'm currently reading Soul Drinkers "REDEMPTION", about 3/4 of the way through the book. *****Spoiler Alert***** I think the authors plot is bogus. In my opinion the Soul Drinkers got a raw deal. I'm having trouble with the Author, the fact that the readers are supposed to buy off on the fact that the Imperium totally disregarded the fact that the Adeptus Mechanicus blatantly stole the Soulspear from the SDs. The fact that the Inquisition totally ignores this fact is also bothersome. The fact that the Chapter Master didnt demand it's return directly to the Imperium and is also mind boggling. There's also the fact that apparently no other Space Marine Chapters have knowledge of the theft of the Soul Spear, and apparently play no role in the story.
well politics in the Imperium would make the Byzantine empire bluss and seem pretty straight forward! not to mention that the AM is far more important than a 2nd Founding chapter so guess whos word really counts...
No Legion of the Dammned? Fire Hawks were lost in a warp jump killing all but 200 (approximately) battle brothers in the jump, they now show up in battles and disappear just as quickly once the fight is done. nor the Astral Knights, sacrificed their entire chapter to destroy the planet sized Necron warship the World Engine (granted they are a lost chapter with no successors)
