  1. Apart from having a much more powerful motor, larger blade and stronger teeth tracks (a normal human wouldn't even be able to LIFT it).

Actually no that's not true, The force of the blow forces better traction from the blade hence why it is able to pierce ceramite. A Guardsman with a Chainsword would just chip away at Power Armor.
  2. Tarr Tarr Subordinate

The Imperial Guard. What it should content to balance, among others? Being a Commissar, Sergeant or other officer with ability to "summon" squad of guardsmen to command and/or some heavy weapon.
  3. It would have to be numbers but it wouldn't really be possible on current hardware.
  4. Tarr Tarr Subordinate

Maybe and sadly, but... Let's put our faith in the Omnissiah. May his blessing fall upon game crew.

Isn't carapace armour 4+? And aren't bolters AP 5? So, can't carapace armour stop a bolter round? Or is the TT too immersion-breaking for you?

I really like discussing with you. (no sarcasm)

Hrm.. i'm going to accept that. Still those upgrades make the Chainsword of the Marines mostly more Durable than that much powerful. Depends on how powerful the Motor is.

It's not a Sword in the common sense. When you hit your Target the actual Blades don't touch much until they dig deeper into your unfortunate Enemy which is primarily done by the Motor. But after all i just wanted to answer your Question with what they could kill one, no matter what the Odds. I do believe a Powersword even wielded by a puny Human can do the Trick and with some luck at the right Spot the Chainsword too. But as i said, no matter what the Odds are.

I wouldn't want an Guardsmen really capable of downing an tactical Marine in pure Melee.. maybe an Scout or Orkboy, but not anything better. Just because the Game will feature Melee it doesn't have to exclude everything that is not powerful at it. In That Case there is even a slimmer chance for the Tau to make it into the Game then the Guard, the Guard have at least access to Powersword, the Tau rely completely on the Kroot and Gue'vesa in that Aspect of Combat.
  7. TT Rules are made specifically to allow balance, Fluff wise it's a trainwreck.

Tornadium is talking more about what "should" happen. Not really about TT rules.

Sure there must be guards. Whoever thinks different, is a heretic, and must be purged hard.
  10. Likewise

Well for example Loken was getting close to cutting through Abaddons Terminator suit, whereas in the Word Bearers omnibus I believe there was a part where one of the Chainswords belonging to a PDF captain literally did nothing against it. Theres other instances as well in the Night Lords : Bloodreaver novel where duels between members of the claws for leadership end whenever they manage to get a cut into a weak spot like the neckjoint.

Yeah I know, Problem is the only vulnerable joint that is going to put a SM down is the Neckjoint which a normal human can't really even reach. The Chainsword does need strength to actually hold the blade on the surface to get traction though.

I don't mind them having a chance, I mean a bayonet against an orc can kill and has been done before but rarely. There are next to no cases of Space Marines ever being killed by Guard in a Melee.
