Where's the fun?

I bought the game way back when there was only Space Marines and Chaos in the game. Played a bit then but I put aside since it was so rough. It'll probably get better as time goes.
Officially released a few days ago and decided to give it a go.

Playing Orks, because Orks are cool, you know. Would have played Space Marines if Black Templar was a thing but no such luck there.
No matter what faction we come against, I am spending most of the game dead and the only way I can get XP is by leeching it from a control point.

    If I attempt to be a bit more offensive, it usually ends up like this;
Spawn. Live for 5-10 seconds. Get instagibbed from some sort of ranged weapon, grenade or melee spam fest. Respawn. Rinse and repeat.

Where is the fun in this? How can I as a new player have fun?

Forgot to mention the huge amount of lag and stuff happening. Every game, no matter map or level, always starts with a freeze lag that is 30 - 60 seconds long (I am not kidding). Playing on low graphics and 1280x720 with Vsync disabled. Small freeze lags then happen throughout the game, all the time.
..since people always scream for computer specs when I mention lag, I might as well post it here too.

    Nvidia Geforce GTX 860M.
    i7 4710HQ - 2.50GHz
    16 GM RAM
    Windows 10.

The lag freezes seem to attack machines almost indiscriminately. I had a really outdated Zotac 630 system that could run the game just fine on the lowest settings (I have since upgraded) while I hear horror stories of top-of-the-line rigs that could barely chug along

As for spending most of the game dead, it's a combination of most of the players being experienced founders and the Time-To-Kill being very short

Position is everything in this game. Roughly 3/4 of my kills is against people who actually don't see me before it's too late. You have to start thinking like a cockroach and always hug a wall of some sort. Don't run into a cap point, wait for some other dofus to do it, then run in the opposite side of where said dofus went in and unload into the backs of the people trying to shoot dofus.
Waylay people and use the map to your advantage. Find the red arrows, realize where the red arrows are going, camp next to the entrance they are likely to come in through and shoot them in the back.

Also as an ork, you need to get close. Your weapons, with a few exceptions, aren't meant for long range shootouts. Your melee is also kinda wonky.

  4. You might die right quick...But with a little time you'll pick up some good habits to live/kill. This game is much easier to get into than Space Marine's multiplayer was. And at least you don't have to get killstreaks to get mods.
  5. The game can be fun, once you have adapted.

i got 500+ Hours on this, i claim to know how to play this game, but i still get instagibbed, wtf-defeated or just die without any visual indication or clue what happened.

This also enrages us Founders, be assured. Thing is, we have a lot more practice, know the maps better and where the sweet spots and meatgrinders are, how to circumvent situations and so on.

A new player beeing thrown into this carnage... phew...
I see where your point is comming from, believe me

Learn the tiny game physics, sure with the lag it seems impossible.
Once you have felt the fluid of this game and with support of a guild, a warband, or even queuing with pugs, you will find "your" fun ingame.
    Its a great WH40K shooter.
I have to learn my melee from the scratch for example, every patch it feels a bit new or different at all.
With ranged its quite the same. Find out where to hide. Get to know the maps is essential imo.
Just a little patience and practise.

  7. Learn thr game. Positioning is key. You will get a feel for areas likely to be covered by heavy weapons and killzones for melee swamps.

I main bolter apothecary and find it very easy to shoot down enemies but unlike other classes it does take very good positioning and timing.

I know exactly your feeling. Just camp. Camp at your point and defend it. This is what i do.

When you assault, follow your squad, when you manage to capture a point, just camp, camp at your point and defend it. This is what i do.
  9. This. In every shooter.

I am just waiting for a Silencer for my Hawk.
Reminds me of the CoD4 days. That's where I learned that lesson. In that game almost all the time a scout drone was up for both teams. So I was going with Coldblooded (to not show up from scoutdrones), a silenced P90 and increased Sprintspeed. Look at the map where the green blibs are clashing with the red blibs, flank the fuck out of the enemys, and mow down anyone who doesn't expect you behind the frontlines. Even if you meet them head on, they are mentally not ready for a fight, because they thougt they were just running through a safe spot.
With coldblooded you even suprise the experienced enemys who employ the same strategy of looking religiously on the minimap.
Or in MW2 when coldblooded prevented the enemy crosshair from going red, and showing your name in red. So many enemys just didn't shoot you :D

This way you don't even have to be good at aiming. It will take a bit to learn the maps. "Oh, I wanted to flank, but now there is a wall. Shit". "Oh I wanted to flank, but I walked in such a path that enemys would spawn behind me."

You'll learn where the enemys spawn, and what the most common routes are. You'll learn where not to go because a Heavy Bolter will mow you down, and where to go to get right behind that Heavy Bolter.
  10. Another thing i did at the beginnen (way before early access) Start as Support.

I suggest the Chaos Sorcerer or the Eldar warlock. Their ranged-heal makes it quite easy to be effective while also beeing in saftey. Find yourself one teammate and "marry" him, follow him around whatever he does and try to keep him alive. If hes an idiot he will die soon, run back to your teammates and latch onto someone else. After a while, you will find someone who knows the game for a lot longer and try to learn from him. How he moves, when he does, wich actions he does take when in melee and so on. And as you hopefully keep him alive, he can continue to show how you should play.

    1. You learn the game
    2. You do your part in ensuring victory
    3. That dude may start to like you, as he survives longer then without you
    4. You have success and maybe more fun

    Win - Win?

I did that at the start, and had success with that. Maybe that's something for you too?
