What's with the firerate of these battletanks?

I'm mostly referring to Predators and Gunwagons. Are they supposed to fire tank shells that fast? It's just that I think I'd prefer the main cannon to fire more slowly but deal more damage so that it would be used less for anti-infantry work. I'm saying this just because it seems to weaken the need to fulfill the anti-infantry gunner roles. That, and I like my tank shells to feel impactful within a single shot. But that is besides the point that i'm making.
  2. Remember the auto cannon is more like a grenade launcher in terms of speed of shots and shot power. Its not really anti tank but can be used in a pinch.

If they didn't murder infantry with ease (comparatively with Eldar lawnmovers in killrate), there would be little need for anti-vehicle. If all they did was to be efficient against vehicles, a single infantry unit would be able to surpass the tanks.

In WH40k, the autocannon is a light anti-tank weapon suitable for wrecking lightly armored transports and scout craft. It is not a weapon where the crew must load and fire each shell individually.

If you want to see WH40k's equivalent of a real life MBT's main gun, you want the Leman Russ' Battle Cannon.

According to the Dawn of War games, when a Leman Russ fires its Battle Cannon, the entire front of the tank lifts off the ground as it rocks backward, from the recoil.

The predator destructor tank uses an autocannon, not battle cannon. It's an anti infantry tank, if you want an anti vehicle tank look at the predator annihilator with its lascannons

On that note antivehicle tanks will probably be added when they finish the tank battle map

Aren't there other options besides autocannons though? And, to be clear, They are *sort of* anti-tank as it is.
I also consider Eldar Lawnmowers not within my wanted discussion of tank guns. Hopefully, that will be properly nerfed at some point. As for a single infantry unit surpassing tanks, Perhaps, but there would still be an opportunity to kill that single anti-vehicle infantry in question.

As stated in my post there are two variants of predator tank, destructor and annihilator. The predator destructor is a general purpose infantry support tank with two heavy bolters and an autocannon, while the predator annihilator is a pure antivehicle tank with four lascannons

Space Marines do not use slow firing battle cannons, probably because they're too heavy and cumbersome for Astartes battle doctrine

Antivehicle tanks will probably be added when they finish the tank battle map

Sure, but the usefulness of the tank is that it shreds infantry fast. Take that away, and the vehicle isn't that useful anymore besides as a one-use transport. Mentioned the Eldar because people love to complain about their roadkills, but the tanks are devastating against infantry to a very comparable level, if not even more so (predator more so than the battlewagon, naturally)

They're just Predators. Destructor and Annihilator are just descriptions of the turret weapon loadout, like how the Apache helicopter variant with that sensor suite above the rotors is called the "Longbow".

The turret weapons are either an autocannon, or a twin-linked lascannon (two lascannons mounted together to fire in parallel simultaneously). The sponson weapons can be either heavy bolters or lascannons. There is also sometimes a pintle-mounted stormbolter on the cupola, and sometimes they add an anti-tank missile called a "hunter-killer missile". They also sometimes add a bulldozer blade to some tanks, extra armor plating, a spotlight...

Basically there are all sorts of ways for a Space Marine force to customize their Predator tanks for their needs. WH40k tech is fairly heavily jury-rigged.

A Space Marine's power armor very often was not designed as one suit of armor just for them, but is a hodge-podge of surviving components from a variety of sources and even different versions of armor, created at various times in history.

Okay, I agree. I still don't buy that large barrel of a gun should be considered to be an auto cannon... But I agree. It just looks like something that would be used against tanks rather than infantry.
