  2. I started with Warhammer 40k: Fire Warrior on Playstation. Then I went to Dawn of War 1, Dawn of War 2, Space Marine, and finally Eternal Crusade. I have three table top armies and almost every novel out till about 4 months ago when funds ran out to buy more books. Money well spent. :D

Technically my first one was Chaos Gate, but I didn't know what WH40k was, I only saw a Sci-Fi strategy game back then.

Then I played Fire Warrior, not even noticing that it was the same universe.

And eventually Dawn of War 1 made me look into Wh40k, I realized I was into it already, got some novels and well.... Here I am - having contributed hugely to EC's community through the RP sector :D

Given the pixel-y graphics of those two games, not making the connection is completely understandable. Chaos Gate was a great game, though. A sequel - hell, a clone with updated graphics - would sell like hotcakes.

Deathwatch gets pretty close to the game-feel, but I think ppl were expecting too much X-Com quality, not realizing that the 2 developer studios are on entire different levels, lol.

But I agree that a REALLY good turn-based strategy game for Wh40k is missing. I would even just love something like heroes of might & magic / the sorcerer king or even civilizations in Wh40k style.

Regicide is not bad, but... It's just not where I would like it to be, I would like more RPG elements with leveling and such or to worry more about survival and making best of resources in a campaign-esque setting.

I never knew warhammer was a thing until i got DoW2 Chaos Rising
  8. I grew up around Warhammer Fantasy, Empire specifically because my brother had this massive box of troops and cannons and I always thought they looked really cool. Also played Fire Warrior and the first Dawn of War with the expansions whenever they came out. Only really got into Warhammer 40k tabletop when a friend of my brother gave me his entire IG army and I sorta just built on it from there.

    DOW Dark Crusade
  10. Was introduced to GW with 40k 19 years ago. I was in second grade and my best friend at the time was building a huge SM army. If I recall he was doing them as Ultramarines. We'd split the army in half and have a game or two. My family at the time was fairly poor so I couldn't start an army. After 3 years we moved and I wound up with a friend who had a very large Bretonnian army. Managed to get my first Warhammer army at the point, staring out with a fairly simple Lizardman army. Eventually I moved on to a Skaven army, and have stuck to them ever since; partially because I'm better and painting them.

Beyond that I've played quite a few GW video games, starting with think Firewarrior. Though after my house burnt down in 2008 I finally got my 40k army... Tyranids. My poor army I will have to eventually kill you on here.
