Judging by the gameplay video we have seen in the latest update, the game combat will look and play like Spacemarine multiplayer. Obviously the ambition of EC is much bigger - more races, planetary map etc. However my question goes to the 1v1 player versus player combat. What is the planned improvement over Spacemarine? I am asking that, because honestly the MP in spacemarine felt very underwhelming - especially melee combat.
http://forum.eternalcrusade.com/threads/what-is-combat-like-in-eternal-crusade.802/ This thread is very informative in regards to combat and mechanics that are planned for the game. Check it out, and you might find some answers In short, the combat is going to be slower than in space marine and will also feature blocking and dodging. Furhermore, keep in mind that the gameplay video is pre-alpha footage.
That is great to hear! Slower - or "arcade" if you will - combat is desperately missing in contemporary MP. I always fondly remember Unreal XMP a forgotten and discontinued multiplayer with absolutely wonderful combat mechanics. Two heavily armored players could battle each other for minutes, landing hits and dancing around - no surprise kills. Of course there was a sniper class that could kill in one shot, however that was balanced by his own frail health and limited ammo.
Well, we don't really know yet considering we've see something like 30 seconds of pre-alpha gameplay. That said, here's what I anticipate will be better: 1. MORE PLAYERS going at it at the same time. 2. Open world/maps, not arenas. 3. More depth (this is pretty amorphous, but I think we all know this means a lot of different things)
They're basing their combat prototype from Space Marine but a lot will be changed and developed. I wouldn't worry too much it's early yet!
This. For starters more options in combat are planned. Actual meaning behind objectives that affects the overall battle. More races Better terrain more open to movement , less restricted. Better atmosphere. Forgeworlds are full of servitors and techpriests going about their duties. Even millitary divisions of the mechanicus which we never saw in space marine. Not even their corpses.
