My Daemon Bolter shall spit its fury at the enemies of the glorious IVth and those who have the foolishness not to fall beneath its deadly bolts shall taste the wrath of my Dread Axe or Iron Claw.. But seriously, tactical marine loudout: range - bolter, melee - axe or claw(depending what looks best lol)
Why the bolter and not a combi-bolter or something similar? Just being curious ^^ And how dare you question the awesomeness that transcends the warp in form of the most glorious claw?!
As an Australian ex-infantryman I've come to believe in the ultimate power of K.I.S.S (Keep It Simple Stupid), Well the Devs say a weapon held in two hands will be more powerful then a weapon held in one hand, And the Bolter is an awesome piece of equipment, Considering its ammo will be the most commen ammo dropped from an enemy since the Bolter is meant to be the most commen weapon used by both SM and CSM, Its standard rounds will be free at resupply points, And its upgradable/progression will enable it to be customised greatly to suit the players preference..ammo capacity, range, recoil absorbtion etc As for melee, Its hard to go past the sheer passion of a large bladed weapon and it'd be an Axe for me as preference over a Sword(personal choice), Wether a single Claw would look as awesome in action remains to be seen, if it does..woooo baby I'll be using one. Sadly Devs have said if you go dual-weild melee ( say 2 Claws) then you dont get a ranged weapon and from what I've read I may not even be able to go Bolter and Axe but have to downgrade my ranged capabilty to a Bolt pistol.
That's actually a very interesting piece of advice if you ask me, I haven't even thought about using the bolter much until now. Thanks for your detailed answer! But I hope that it will be possible to use an Axe and a Bolter at the same time, a lot of well known characters use their bolters with a single hand. I'm still thinking whether it would be a good idea to use two lightning claws, even as a raptor/assault marine, or not.
I know in SM by using the "True Grit" skill you could eventually use the Bolter in one hand instead of a Bolt Pistol as an assault marine/raptor, your other hand having the chainsword(chainaxe)/powersword(daemonsword). There was a Dev post saying a character will be able to quickly transition from ranged weaponary to melee weaponary without difficulty, but what exactly that entails and what types of weaponary combinations at either end of that transition would be possible I think hasnt been disclosed yet.
Dual plasma pistols for my raptor! hop in unload the fury of a sun hop right back out before they even knew what hit em!
