Why is it that people can't seem to express an opinion on this board without some flip comment being appended? I've been following this game very closely, as I did DMO beforehand. I'm merely expressing that I'm hoping it actually transcends the predictable shooter model and incorporates some elements more traditionally ascribed to MMOs. Perhaps the 'FPS' tag was ill-chosen, but the concept still holds merit.
That the game stops being about your dude/dudette/dude-oid and starts to become about other Dramatis Personae from fluff/lore and war machines of that kind of dramatic scale.
I'm actually curious why you say that. I'm not saying Firefall is good, I don't know much about it - what'd they do? Last I saw it was a kinda generic PvE game with a neat glider dynamic, but it didn't look like they'd promised much or generated a lot of hype.
They changed development plans, over and over and over again, in basic they wanted a 2011 release, then they coivered it up saying that is not what they were aiming for, but for some reason it clearly says 2011, now its 2014 and only this they are going to release it, i joined the first CBT among 500 others, back in 2010 oktober, they remade progression and elements in the game so many times that it took them over 4 years to get were they are. They then blamed their CEO mark kern and pinned it all at him as an escapegoat so everything is all fine now, but out of fear nobody voiced concerns or said "Enough". In basic they reinvented the wheel several times, but most importantly they stopped listening to feedback and only used the feedback which was fitting with their own ideas
my greatest fear is that the control scheme won't lend enough diversity to combat and the combat won't be fun. the problem with most hack-and-slash titles is their reliance on one or two buttons to control every action available to the player.
Huh. So, less of a specific disappointment or failure, and more of an intangible development hell based on constant reiterations and a misplaced ambition for improvement? WELP. I've added a new fear.
That it'll be a P2W where things other than cosmetics (and unlocking races) will be behind a paywall.
