Dawn of War: Dark Crusade, followed up very closely by Space Marine and Dawn of War II: Retribution. I also might as well give Dawn of War: Winter Assault a mention because it was my first Warhammer 40k game and I love it to pieces despite it's flaws.
I had a really odd relationship with Fire Warrior. I remember there being a time when I actually thought it was my favourite PS2 game of all time, but now I can see so many things wrong with it. The graphics weren't great, It got dull after long periods of time, and some of the stuff in the game made little sense lore-wise (Bright Blue Guardsmen on a red planet, Lasguns being better weapons than Pulse Rifles, Fire Warriors being able to lift Bolters, taking down Valkyrie Gunships with Autoguns, etc. ) Hell, I was surprised to find out Brian Blessed voiced in this game because I didn't recognize his voice at all! How the hell do you take a voice as iconic as Brian Blessed's and somehow make it completely unrecognizable? I'm gonna get backlash for saying this, but I swear that some of the stuff that was put into Fire Warrior was added because Halo 1 had them (since when did Fire Warriors have RECHARGING SHIELDS in their armour?) And hell, even then Halo 1 did these features better despite being 2 years older (2 gun system anyone?) ...oh sweet Emperor i'm so gonna regret posting this...
True but it was something different compared to the standard line of Wh40k Video Games which near always puts the Spess Mahreens on the Cover. So playing as a non Astartes and even a Non-human was a good plus.
I want to say Fire Warrior, but that was be soley based on the atmosphere it created which i thought was actually better than Space Marines, I was terrified of Chaos Space marines and the environments were amazing and evoking ( you can tell what kind of person i am now xD) However, after looking back at it there were so many gameplay and lore issues. If however the story changed so that you could play as an Imperial guardsmen instead with a small squad, it woud have made more sense. But i doubt the A.I at that time was good enough for squad combat. As such id go with dark crusade!, i was young when i got into it so never played multiplayer alot or was able to take the time to get good at it. But Dark Crusade was defo the best imo, the story, the music and variety were excellent. SS was just terrible xD I found it lacking from Dark Crusade despite the addition of two races.
Dawn of War: Dark Crusade. Yeah, it's a great game, but more importantly (all importantly) it was the game that actually introduced me to Warhammer 40,000. I was hooked from the moment I heard "Sanity is for the weak!"... Hm. I don't think I ever loaded that game onto this computer, and it has been a couple years... Excuse me, I need to go play a game until the sun comes up.
Fire Warrior was a shitty game, ok? But I played it and, oddly enough, kinda liked it As it have already been mentioned, Fire Warrior was different and one of the kind
Chaos gate, was my favorite, I also liked Rites of War and Space Hulk. Space Marine was good but multiplayer was more like halo than a 40k game, Single player was good until the last "fight". Dawn of war(all of them) was also a great set of games. Fire Warrior wasn't he worst game I ever played, but it had "Issues". Final Liberation was also a good game for it's time.
