What is the obsession with Jain Zar?

I agree with you, but I got a different spin on that. It made it sound like Jain Zar was less a continuous entity joyriding in some eldar's body, and more a title/position that the wearer adopts. "Such as no Jain Zar has felt" implies a distinction between wearers.

Which is interesting, I've always seen the phoenix lords (and by extension exarchs) as overpowering presences, being in control of the body while the host soul just kind of pokes at important things. But here we have a phoenix lord that refers to herself as separate from her line, as an individual, one of many. Not many as one, and I think that humanizes her a bit. This is a character that can still know separation from life, value relationships that are not eternal.

It's something new, and I don't know if it was meant to be read that way or if GW had a hissy fit when they saw it. I am sure a lot of fans would be angry if the lore got changed like that. But I'm not opposed to it, I'd like to see where it goes.

Well, considering how Exarchs are the same personality, no matter who wears the armor, and PL are just much older, much more powerful versions of Exarchs, there are *some* parallels to be drawn there, at least.

Not to mention in the Path series, it briefly touches on what happens when someone puts on a PL's armor. Their soul is consumed and absorbed by the armor. The PL is always the dominant personality, but they can look into each soul's experiences in battle and learn from them. (Extrapolating from the Exarch's ability, a PL might not have any need to do this.)

So while she may know she has multiple souls inside her, and can view their experiences, she is still an individual, and should be referring to herself as a singular entity. If she had multiple personalities, or if some of the souls inhabiting her armor took over every so often, then I'd say it'd be safe to use third-person, since it would be a collection of different personalities inhabiting the same body. As it stands, however, she is an individual, Jain Zar's personality is dominant amongst the other souls inside her armor. If that wasn't the case then the PL's would be terrible fighters, as they'd be fighting one second, then another personality would take over and they'd have a few moments where they sit there doing nothing, trying to adjust.

This is mostly speculation and formulation from what I know/can remember, however. Still, what I have said does make sense to me, though I don't believe this topic has ever gone into much detail before.

I know, that's why I'm saying Jain Zar being "one among many" is a lore change. The lore changes, if this turned into canon there would be people who hate it and want "many as one" to stay and people like me who say, "Cool, what can we do with this?"

Other controversial opinions- I also like the Stormcast Eternals. Even though they're fantasy Ultramarines on the outside, on the inside and by the lore/creation they're much more interesting and varied characters.

It could just be the individual who is donning the armour talking. Jain-zar might allow the wearer to be free every once and a while.

    I find that doubtful.

With how badly these things are worded, and given the location of Behaviour's offices, I suspect it's someone who speaks French natively who's writing these things.

Mortarion was ALWAYS a pissy little bitch.

    Just ask Jaghatai Khan.

and I remember a tale of Maugan Ra have an exarch turn into a Avatar of khaine, just so he could kill it in order to temper the blade on his gun.

    Maugan Ra's a monster.
Are you sure that's even the real Alpharius?( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
So the real reason for Jain Zar reveals itself.

While indeed the Phoenix lords are "normal" eldars with millennia of experience I really doubt thats all there is to it. We know that:
    1) eldar are some of the strongest psykers in 40k
    2) that many eldar souls together can even form gods
    and
    3) that even gods spark can enhance the power of the recipient by large amounts (avatar of Khaine)

so IMHO they should surpass normal eldar and most mortals by FAR in fucking ALL things with all that soulpower at their disposal. (+ ofc the knowdlege)
