I really don't think there should be a pay to win game, I really cant stand grinding for months on a item just to see someone with daddy's credit card buy the item after starting the game 2 weeks ago!, i do think buying XP boosts is ok, just so that if u don't have the time level over weeks maybe even months. but defonatly not gear! esthetic only for that please. kinda like GW2, i find that system to be desirable and fair!
I just can't understand why online players are so selfish. They expect everything in the world to be free. I for one am an advocate for fair price and a believer of "Nothing in this damn world is free". Things that are free has no value. Lets be honest, servers needs to be maintained, new content needs to be created, salaries needs to be paid and share holders needs to gain profit. I am a businessman and I love to play. I've worked my arse out to achieve the rewards I now enjoy. I do not see a reason why I should not be able to use money to gain uber weapons as those who doesn't even contribute money to the company. I know that a mmo needs the audiences and the community. But thecompany simply cannot survive without paying customers. So a balance must be achieved, but how? Think about it, a lot of working people needs to work and earn money to sustain. Same as the company's developers and operation team. They need the finances to sustain. Here is my suggestion: 1) Have two type of currency in-game. One for game stuff like repair, upgrades and etc. second, bought with real money for special items. 2) Allow uber stuff, special items and cosmetic stuff to be bought with these credits 3) These credits can be traded to other players Rationale - Those players who have lots of time and no work commitment can earn their credits by doing daily achievements and then use those earned credits to buy some uber stuff. As for those who have work commitments, they can spend money to purchase these stuff. - I think this way it is fair as people who work and earn a living just simply do not have the time to grind for gears or wait for some godly drop from a rare mob. Note: "In a different perspective, everything is pay to win. Either you pay with your time to win or you pay with money earned from time well spent to win" which ever way you see it, it has always been, pay to win. Don't be so naïve and wake up to the real world. (no puns intended)
Quick answer: forget it... uberly. Here is Miguel Caron's comment about P2W from his profile page, I guess that will explain what kind of game EC will be. So, you can see there's NO WAY EC could be a regular P2W, the devs are ONLY CONSIDERING small boosts and it's not even sure they will appear. Definitely nobody from community wolud like to see any 'golden uber plasma cannons dealing 5X more damage'. You don't have to worry about grinding either as this game will be more about SKILL and COOPERATION. I also suggest you think again about the definition of the word 'selfishness'. Romp said: EDIT: EC will not be for free, it's a Buy to Play model.
i agree with you but remember: the game is b2p so we pay basically when people ask for a cosmetic shop is because consider the fact that they have already payed and don't want to pay more. so the b2p part of money is like the part that avoid to see unbalanced and unfair stuff in the shop
wait i have an idea ad i think is a good idea. what about a xp boost implemented as an huge special rest bonus? the xp boost is for who play less? so it must work only if you actually play less. for example someone buy a 10 euro xp boost for 100k extra xp. that 100k extra xp can be gained only via a rest bonus. you don't play for 24 hours? for example you Gain 10k xp bonus. the next 10k of xp gained in the game become 20k but after that the Gain come back to normal and for obtain the other 90k you need to accumulate the rest bonus. with this method less you play more bonus you have.
The game will cost money to play beyond the Ork faction, so, y'know. That. Also: cosmetics. TF2 already makes a ton of money off of strictly cosmetic items and considering that the majority of the Warhammer 40k following is based around customization and personalization of armies and units, I'm pretty sure that EC is going to have enormous amounts of cosmetic customization and therefore an enormous profit margin due to bits sales. Incidentally, the reason that players don't like it when people like you buy their way to success is not because they want something for free, but because they feel their time is worth something. When they spend a lot of time earning something, they expect other people to have to put forth the same amount of effort rather than throwing money at the problem. You see, games are a competition. Competition undertaken for the sake of entertainment, but still competition. Circumventing intended game mechanics (see: purchasing "uber weapons" instead of earning them through in-game effort) is considered cheating because it undermines what the game was designed for. Baseball and Football are the same way - bankrolling players and providing them with performance enhancing drugs is illegal for the same reason. If it was like you wanted it to be, Eternal Crusade would be a great example of a flame-out business, something you should be familiar with as a "businessman": A brief spike of interest and profit where people buy the game and cash in all of their credit cards to get the biggest and baddest weapons and then a sharp decline in player interest as the majority of players move on to something that doesn't measure success in dollars and cents.
