From my experiences in multifaction combat, usually #2 and #3 don't team up. After #2 has decided they can't beat #1, they turn and beat down #3. Why slam your head into a wall of Space Marines that out number you 5 to 1 when you out number Eldar 3 to 1? After all, it is a game and most people just want to kill stuff, not be killed. But that's why you added Tryanids.
"the combat plays out like a proper third-person shooter and in this regard one of our big inspirations is Space Marine" please, for the love of the emperor/warp/gork/mork/asuryan, please, please please do a better job of it. I bought Space Marine TWICE, because I could not stand waiting an additional 24h until my amazon shipment arrived. and it was the worst multiplayer experience I've had in a long time. of course in EC the horrendous lobby system would be out of the question, but the weapons were (are) unbalanced, handling is wonky, and the worst thing is a bug that has not been fixed since launch: if you have a low-spec (but better than minimum spec!) computer, bracing with a heavy bolter does nothing - your rate of fire will not increase. similarly, all other weapons have a lower rate of fire on low-end PCs. please take nothing from SM's multiplayer except for a few design ideas.
Hi Brent, One comment on the game play that was shown. Since it's a 3rd person shooter, it's a given that you see the back of your character as you play. But in the demo the character was a Chaos SM (I think) and his armor was massive. As cool as it sounds, his armor was actually covering up quite a lot of the screen, and was really restricting the players field of view. Not sure if it's a big issue, but it seemed odd to me. Thanks, -K
I doubt it will be that straightforward, however, they did say asymmetric balance, so, yes? But like I said, I doubt it will be that straightforward.
