    How would that be weird?

Not weird at all.. its like playing a New YOU.. cause the last one... well ... *sweeps under carpet..*
  3. There will always be casualties in the war/debate over balance, fun, and lore-adhesion.

As noted by many before me, the game must be FUN. While all of us here are levels and variations of WH40K fans, we are not enough to keep this game afloat for the long run. Behavior & Games Workshop has to be able to appeal to new players who have never heard of WH40K and see it and think, hey.. this is like a StarCraft MMO! <facepalm>. In order to draw them in and keep them, it's got to be fun.
If that comes at the expense of some lore, so be it, IMO.

I do not envy the devs having to try and balance this between fun for nubs (i.e., not login, get nuked, rage-quit), and dynamic enough for Johnny Momsbasement to play forever.

Fun, yes. But that is why we play 40k in the first place, and those of us who play tabletop are no strangers to imbalance. If they make it lore friendly, it WILL be fun, which is the entire point of using the IP. Why make a 40k game if it's just having the skin, and not the mechanics behind it? If you cant blow someone apart with psyker powers, or vaporize someones face in a bloody mess with a bolt round, or feel like a god in terminator armor, or die like the dirty loyalist dog you are, then what's the point of playing a "40k" game?

That's one reason I believe Tabletop is a a better reference than "lore".

Unlike lore, where everyone's power changes as the plot demands, Tabletop is already more or less balanced. Imbalances caused by changing mediums (ie from turn based to real time, from strategy to shooter) can be more easily adjusted for when you're starting from a mostly balanced state to begin with.

We shouldn't stick 100% to Tabletop of course, because there are factors that play out differently in a real-time shooter than a turn-based strategy game and we're going to have to make adjustments for that. For example, I doubt anyone here is going to have 67% accuracy with their bolter. But as a reference to how the factions should compare to each other after balance is taken into account, it's the best and most reliable source we have.
  6. I don't disagree at all.. but that's coming from someone who was introduced to this in the late 80s. I was CRUSHED at the dissolution of THQ and the loss of Dark Millennium. I've wanted to be a Space Marine and destroy the enemies of the God Emperor forever and a day. I'm certainly not advocating abandoning the intellectual property & lore of the game in favor of fun and balance. I simply want to state that I remain flexible on the bending of lore to make the game better and more appealing.
As long as Behaviour carefully crafts some sort of separation between initiates and veterans, I don't see a problem with it.

because this game is not trying to copy the TT exactly. It is their version of the 40k universe. Not a perfect template of TT. Ill say it again clearly, this game is not supposed to be the tabletop version of your dreams.
games dont work that way. People want to have fun. companies want to make money. BE wants to make a game that not only introduces new people to the lore but also satisfies as much as possible the people, you, who are very specific in wanting the table top reimagined.

Our opinions dont really matter anyways. They have already stated its not going to be like tabletop and I for one am ecstatic with the way Miguel describes the game. A team oriented strategic game played from a firstperson/thirdperson person perspective.

One thing I'd like to say is I love the sounds of executing people / helping them up... 1 thing that always annoyed me about planetside 2 was that a army of medics could keep bringing people back even if you shot them 20 times in the head, as such love the idea of being able to bring people back BUT also have that option to execute people so they stay down.

Oh and with the horizontal progression system make sure to be careful with it, theres many a game thinks they are doing a horizontal system then give you a sight so awful that you do a lot worse until you finally just get a better one

nobody here wants a perfect tt equivalent. we simply want 40k become (virtual) reality. thats all.

codex are a point of view of different faction they are all canon, because each faction look at an event with different eyes.

    like the iron cage:
you read chaos space marine codex: iron warrior win.
you read space marine codex: imperial fist and ultramarine win.
