Well the problem with that is what you consider canon. The Tau codex and Space Marine codex directly contradict each other on who won certain conflicts, for instance. Is Matt Ward's fluff canon? Is Gaunt's Ghosts canon? Is Ciaphus Cain, HERO OF THE IMPERIUM canon? Does the codex trump the novels? If not, which novels take precedence? When codices contradict each other, which takes precedence? It's simpler to realize the truth: there is no canon.
SM wasn't too bad, but it also wasn't exactly a canon game. It was more of a fangasm of playing as a superpowered ultramarine while you ran around exploiting weapons against other people (Cough cough lascannon sniper rifle). I'd much rather have a true to 40k game where I can enjoy the feel and environment of 40k instead of people bitching about why something isn't balanced or why they die against things all the time. I play Thousand Sons on tabletop because of lore, I KNOW what "balancing" feels like, and it ruins the game as a whole once you start making concessions from a lore based perspective.
I believe the rule for canon is whatever came out the latest (it's called retconning or something). If it's a consistent combat game, I think it'd work better if it was a "fluff" based combat system rather than assigned stats that are used to sell the latest models.
I like it for being an attempt of giving us a 40k game. They tried, it was alright, hopefully this is better
Im just worried 40k might get tooo popular and goes down hill like most things that get mainstreamed.
I suspect this touches on part of the game development, perhaps like DOTA, where actual working in teams will win the day. Teams where classes compliment each other could be very powerful indeed, particularly if they give bonuses for properly loaded out teams. On that note, I'd like to see some sort of bonus system for Chapter/Clan members grouped.. assuming there is grouping of sorts.
Either that, or you see a bunch of people whom appreciate how badass it is to be a superhuman in power armor, and it interests people enough to bring them more into the hobby. Its iffy, but if it's a good game, then people should play it.
just like ArmA 3 ? meantime, while you wait, you can play a mod that couldnt be more true to lore, made for the ultimate military simulation: http://www.moddb.com/mods/ofpwh40k http://www.moddb.com/mods/arma2wh40k/news/wip5 its old yes, but this is probably as realistic as 40k will get.
