Not for Ork either You can't be a Loota then swap out and be a Kommando Nob xD Or better off, a Mekboy, switch out to be a Wierdboy Even the simple Ork -> Nob switch back and forth would look ridiculus But yea, Eldars have ir rought in that regard too ^^; SM and CSM got a bit more levity about this. Erm... tho CSM not that much (like raptors... they are technically mutated + fused together with their armor... it would be hard to "switch" it to say... a Havoc's )
its just a technical issue really. what prevents you to play a banshee in any mmorpg instead of a warp spider? its more a psychological effect if you choose your character when you go to the login screen and level him on that account and then switch to your alt account and level the spider or you could just as well switch the chars ingame/ in combat when you die or spawn and level them that way. really the second one is more convenient.
You say that there aren't any irreversible decisions for SM and CSM but... a once it's been discovered that a neophyte has psychic potential, he has it forever. If he's trained to be a librarian, he's a librarian forever. That's not to say he couldn't pick up a heavy bolter and belt out lead for a few hours, but behind the gun he's still a librarian. And any marine who is sent to Mars (or whatever forge world) will be a techmarine... forever. I'd be lying if I told you that I remembered my point... so I'll just make a different one. Librarians shouldn't be a hero unit or equivalent, they are cool and powerful, but not so much that I'd put them in another tier from other battle-brothers. Also, I want a techmarine, they would be the utility class in combat, capable of bringing a weapon for any situation, balanced by (if going by Deathwatch RPG rules) servo-arms only being able to carry pistol class ranged weapons.
guys, those are all lore appropriate examples, but they have already stated they are letting people switch loadouts. How often and to what extent has not been decided, so for all of you that cannot contemplate how a banshee can change into a warpspider, or an ork Choppy Boy into a shoota boy its very easy. you die and you change your weapon on respawn. They aren't PERFECTLY trying to recreate the universe. Otherwise you would die once and never play again. They are following the lore yes, but not to the point that it makes it NOT fun to play. Fun first, lore second.
1. changing must be implemented 2. some classes ought to be not connected and as such unchangeable example. Warrior path allows one to change between any and all Aspects. (Exarch if one was unlocked) Seer path allows one to change between Seer Warlock and Bonesinger (Farseer if one is unlocked) Outcast can always change between Corsair and Ranger (Pathfinder if one was unlocked) But one must choose which way to go in the first place. A fasreer ALL OF THE SUDDEN BECOMING AN EXARCH Is an epic failure. Just as much failure as a hundred farseers.
Your current concern is similar to my own about respawn. The end result is: It isn't the same being, you arn't "switching" from one class to another, it's an entirely different person/alien/fungus. It kind of breaks the RPG aspect of it, but.. meh, something has to give somewhere, unless it's HardCore mode.
nope.you are trying to mix lore with respawning.Warpman's idea is really good and you should at least show it to devs for consideration, otherwise this will be bit too far from even shred of lore.some characters should be able to unlock only certain paths, so you would have to relog different character to fill different SET of roles.this would give depth and diversity while giving enough variety and flexibility to each character .if not,you might as well make all eldar Autarchs.
Gorilla is right, the Devs have to make a line, where the Lore ends and where the Gameplay Beginns! We all want a Lore correct W40k Game, but much more Important is the Gameplay, because Nobody whants to Play a Game with permanent Death... Think about this situation: You have Your Highlevel-superbadass-imba-Mega-Boss-Ultra Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaa(many a)aaaaaaaaaagh! Boss and You Fly with some sort of ork transporter into the Battle. Your Pilot is just doing his first flight and Kilös You. Now you have to start again Wien Your Little Grot. (Just an Exemple) Would you like this? I know, much of my post wasnt Lore confirm, but I think you Brothers will get the Point. Might the allmighty Emperror bless you, and let me get some sleep, its Late here (W40k EC is worth it)!
