WAR is a poor example. Also a lot of people are bored of the "Traditional" MMOs. Especially considering EVERY SINGLE ONE has been an utter disappointment since WoW.
that's almost exactly how I hope it happens. I hope you have to get a certain amount X and then you can be a "rare/Super" unit until you die or log out. They weren't super duper powerful but they could easily take on a few guys back to back.
Kind of hope that at some point when you rise up ranks and develope you could lock your class. So your chosen class will become more powerful (just a small %). Those guys who wont lock will receive all around bonuses to every class ( even smaller % but to each class).
there needs to be something that will limit what classes you can swap around or some type of mechanics/unlocks to allow but limit this to a number per time or ...I don't know.also, how much you plan to stick to CODEX ?I mean,Warp Spider doesn't just swap gear for Howling Banshee,or Berserker of Khorne doesn't drop his chainaxe for Sorcerer's staff... otherwise this class system would look like Firefall or Planetside or well any other shooter now out.whats plan on this ?how you add depth and personalization to characters?
i think that sense of achievement could be achieved in some other way. in space marine i didnt really care for the unlocks. the way people unlocked stuff was not somethng that will burry in your memory. it was just kill a ton of people with this or that gun, over and over. isnt there some other way to do this ? like in linear story shooters where you got that powerful gun or upgrade after you fought through a creepy underground research bunker and defeated a mighty beast or something like that... i want my unlockables to have some kind of meaning, not just kill a bunch of dudes on the battlefield. the underworld missions could very well serve as this, or stronghold assaults.
space marine was simple combatant.but switching from advanced class system would look weird, like examples i gave.for most marines it only means swapping weapon, yes.but not for Eldar
And I wholeheartedly agree on that point mate I really wish they kick this game off to a good start ^^ If they look for inspiration in Space Marine and GoW then its already up to a nice start in my opinion I really loved how the melee fight worked out in Space Marine, it was fluid, though it could be tweaked a bit ^^ You could zoom too, but it still depended on the players actual skills to actually HIT something xD Or dodge That kind of class system is what I'd love to see working as you described it :3 I'd love to get me hands on a Mek spec ^^ Or a Kommando Nob :3 That... and that Warboss in Space Marine lookes just too cool *-* Ok, enough of me fanboy part x)
