What Is Combat Like In Eternal Crusade?

Discussion in 'Ask the Team' started by BrentEllison, Oct 19, 2013.

  1. It's a loudout system, You can swap between Assault, Tactical, Apothecary etc at will.

That's what I'm saying. Swapping is bad!
We want th is to be a MMO game, not "War of the Roses" etc.
  3. I can see class switching working with sm and csm but aren't eldar aspect warriors kind of specialised to switch between aspects unless they are an autarch

  4. Think Planetside 2 or WW2OL.

    It works fine in those.

Well if you want to play crap like that then go play every other MMOs on the market, you can't do 40k in a WoW clone it will not work. You will just piss off the fans more, that idea is like a Matt Ward idea. Its terrible, rough, and tons of hype. They are planning to make Eternal Crusade play more like third-person shooter, which makes so much more sense in a grimdark game where it feels like a medieval-science fiction universe. The developers are smart bunch and are fans of the franchise themselves, so I think they will make a game that everyone will enjoy. So no I do NOT want this to be like a traditional MMO.

    You have a Power-armoured dude.
You can give him whatever weapon you can.
The only irreversible thing is becoming a Librarian.

Hmmmm actually if they want to pull off a Planetside 2 like class system, they'd need to work it out well enough. For orks, it would be rather stupid if you were an Ork Boy then the next time an Ork Nob then back XD In planetside its working, since it has a quite simple system.
    BUT!
I'd hate to see that cert farming that goes in PS2... it would be totally crap here tbh :/ Should be done a bit othervise ^^
And you will be "locked" into a certain role/spec, if you unlock something too deep on a spec, you will rather use that, then a "noob" non-unlocked role :)
It can work in my opinion. And similarly as how the MAX. work in there, they could use the Hero classes similarly (tho, you'd need to unlock them first, it shouldn't be just easily accessable), with a resource use and CD if you "lose it" :)

It funny how everyone shouts about new systems and “special” gameplay, but when it comes to the point of the actual gaming you suddenly realize that there should be something traditional and your ultra-original ideas just don’t work! This happens to a lot of projects, look at WAR as the example (Even though it’s more traditional.). When making a character with irreversible class you have some kind of responsibility and you are pushed to improve your skills in battle with other players. That is IMPORTANT if you talk about more that 200 hundred people on the battlefield. Smart developers can make mistakes as well, especially when pushed by tons of fans.

Hm, so you'd like to see a specialisation, similar as how WAR did it (which I loved tbh)?
I dont want this game to fall into the same mistake as GW2 did with its "great" idea of skipping the holy trinity and making a game of hybrids X)
I do like to know my exact purpuse on the field. It would be rather pointless if it would only be about who has the bigger gun (class) since then, most of the easy-mode gamers will flock to that particular class (As with PS2's heavy assault xD). I dont mind if they use new stuff from PS2 or other successful games, however, this is an RPG too with a great system and background that they can (and most likely will) use as a basis.

That's right, i think WAR's system was good. You choose your charatcer's main class and then you can decide between your classes specialization which dramatically changes the way you play it and gives you an opportunity to adapt to the environment on the server. Even though WAR’s anti-class system won’t work that well in an action game. I’m going for a close combat character in EC and I hope to be able to improve my skill playing that class. Can’t be skilled if your game looks more like Battlefield that an actual MMO.
