Being psyker is difficult but rewarding.
Becoming a sanctioned and trained Librarian takes even greater determination and skill.
Yeah, it doesn't take skill to press "BECOM' DA WEIRDBOY" nor does it take brains to do something but dumbly press the same button over and over, saturating the area with lightning bolts.
(SWTOR players know what I mean)

being given the chance doesn't mean turning it into a big red "make it happen" button.
A player must start as a simple Boy, Tactical marine or whatever.
And then, slowly, step by step, kill after kill, objective by objective, move towards some specific target.
I don't know... Chaos Terminator for instance.
So he must accomplish a hundred achievements, each more and more demanding skill and game mechanic understanding, teamplay and resource management. He must get the attention of some Patron God, collect a ton of requisition, take part in a hundred Tyranid raids and only then shall he get his hands onto Terminator armour.
At that point all the lame and mediocre players would quit that task, getting fun with Chainaxe and all that.
The armour would be cool-looking, powerful and all, but require ots and lots of resources to repair, require lots of ammo to be used prolonged term and always required by the commander.

Or maybe some player just read all the accomplishments of some... I don't know... Eldrad.
And decided. "I'm going to be a badаss farseer!"And so he goes, spending hours in bloody battles to get his war-mask ready for becoming a Warlock, obtaining a ton of relics and completeing a ton of "meditation" sidequests, getting tons of achievements as a basic Seer, understanding the way a Farseer would view the battlefield, getting used to casting (which must not in any case be simple targetted cast via a single button) seeing where support is needed, learning the teamplay interface.
And only when he would see it all from perspective of one he would support, one who would protect him and one who does the same but at a lower rank
Shall he be granted access into the "Big boys club" f Farseers. Forever locking this current character from being Warrior Outcast or Commander. Farseer and Exarchs must be irreversible. Want to have a farseer who has all the goodies (yet requires a ton of resources because runes tend to break, you know, and Farseer glass bones don't mend themselves that easily!) and still play some other class? Get another character. with some "heirloom" goodness from having a faction-big brother on same account.

You create a small and expendable as hell boy.
He gets to love Choppin' or shootin'
So he grows bigger, scavenges partz fo da Mek ta bild'em soem armour.
So he fights, shows all da boyz dat HE IZ DA GREENEST!
HE IS DA MEANEST! And so he grows bold big and fat. He gets achievments, scraps some good looking Termies and maybe even Nids. He gets 'DA REAL BIG SHOOTAZ" for example.
And then, when all is complete, he gets to grow big and powerful enough to get himself some MEGAARMOR
Which is big, mean, can take MOAR shootas but requires lots of fuel, lots of ammo and SH*TTON OF BITS TO REPAIR.
So there won't be many armound, and not all will get them into the battlefield even after obtaining them. Because, you know, they are big and attract lots of Lascannon attention. So taking them when resources are scarce and enemy is well aware of such advesaries, is too dumb and bold.

So from what you saying, HEROES are better in terms of ranks, gears and power but they are not some beasts who can single hand wipe out the entire company!? Good, good, even the Primachs can be wounded and they need bodyguards. Heroes present on battlefield may provide advantages but not entirely turn the table, that how it should be.

I don't want to see a group of librarians running around and zapping people with their finger tips.
But I do want to see someone shout: "New objective, 25% XP bonus for that librarian!", this gonna be fun :D

i wouldnt work my ass off if i would only get marginal bonuses as a hero class.

heroes should be around as powerful as 3 marines, which should be fair for the amount of work required.

Sonic weaponry MUST be a thing in this game. How else are you to march as a Noise marine in the third?

Since you will be putting such an emphasis on melee combat how will the differing ranges in melee work. Will lightning claws move quicker like knives. Will thunderhammers swing slowly? Will there be a staggering effect on shields when they are hit. Will there be a blocking system of some kind like in chivalry?

While we seem to agree that libbys and "heroes" should be powerful, we disagree on whom should be able to use them. What your suggesting here is that thru A LOT of effort I should be able to earn the right to FOREVER be a powerful libby.

One of the situations that immediately arises from this comes to mind, people botting and sharing accounts. For example, You join a guild and the guild decides to share the account for a certain character. You all take turns playing him 24/7 to achieve all the needed things to finally become a libby. So you basically cheated because what was intended to be arduous and difficult as you describe has now been exploited by 5+ guildmates for example. How is this fair to the average player? It seems to help only a certain type of player. Someone with hours and hours of times to play. Yet what if another player is BETTER at games but he is dad or a fulltime worker or a mom you don't get to play this character. You are suggesting because they don't have the time to invest they are not worthy of earning the chance to play that class.
This can be seen in WoW. Certain people can play all day every day and get to enjoy the FULL content of the game via Raids or Awesome PVP gear.

Also, this brings another issue to mind, what is the "appropriate" amount of time/resources that someone has to complete in order to get this chance to be a libby. Who chooses what needs to be accomplished? Is that fair? For example, you give long winded lore appropriate examples of what COULD be done but how does that work in game? We need data driven results. Each race has different achievements. Orks, SM, CSM, Eldar have different ways of fighting and so they must achieve different things. What in game metric data do you use to record this though? headshots? melee attacks? executions etc?

Again it feels like you don't consider how it affects everyone else. Only how it affects you. It also feels like you also don't point out any flaws or limitations with your ideas. The first thing I try to think is how it can be abused. I have plenty of friends who use every cheat code in games and/or love to find that one broken mechanic and find some way to abuse it. I feel what your suggesting should be done would only be beneficial in a single player scenario but in PVP multiplayer I want the chance to be anything. All of this doesn't account for another single problem, fairness. How is it fair that you be given an advantage to do/be something in the game and others do not?

its very good idea, but classes (eldar paths/SM specializations, etc) would be better if more numerous with certain strengths and weaknesses.like Dark Reaper would have strong attacks, but big gaps between those and long reloads plus being only mediocre or weak in melee, having more of ranged damage resistance.just as example.it will obviously be hard to balance it ,but closed and than open beta will help you,W 40 000 have BIG community eagerly waiting for this game .

but how it will work with abilities/skills without action bars?how will Farseer/Warlock cast ?

Sad but true: there are players that WILL look for these short cuts to abuse a part of the game. You could see this in every bloody MMO/RPG/RTS/ect. that got invented. Bugs, gliches, cheats, ect, all takes a different shape, but the easier it is, the faster it will becomes "mainstream" with these players. The consequence ofc, is that the devs need to step in and change things. Which will hurt the other players as well, who might dont even know about this flaw in the system ^^;Personally I think a Hero type class (Farseer, Warboss, SM Captain, CSM Chaos Champoin, or similar units) should be:

    1. Limited!
If you CAN reach this state, though whatever means, then most of the players WILL try to reach it. It would make the other classes nearly obsolete or just a stepping stone to get the "omgfIonehitnoobs" super classes. Which is downright killing the whole reason of this game.
So, lets say... they said there will be leaders of the races (a council of 5igh ppl for example) who would be the only ones able to use it. Ofc, they'd have some big responsibilities attached to their new power. And if they dont do their job, then an another would be voted to his place. As simple as that.

    2. Should be important to see it on the field
For example, you could pull off using this class for a limited time and with a long CD. This is just an idea, but that would allow the user to explore or do other things in PvP or PvE and use it only when there is a dire need. So it would mean something when they deploy it. Then it cant be abused and the player would need to think twice when they use up their trump card. Think of it like the Aion's Fortress guardian, just with a timer and player controlled ;) Meaning, it would be like using a t-shirt. You wont lose your original progression of whatever class you've used before. When or if you lose your spot in the said council, you would just revert back to your "old" class and could not use this "skill" anymore.

    3. Should not be abused
As I said, should be voted for to fill that position. There are players that crave for such spot and power. Others just would like to play that certain role or class. But they could not sit on their ars and do nothing or use it for selfish ends. I bet players would want to abuse their role as a powerful class to pull up their buddies company and whatever. However, if you limit their activity to certain types (say... open world PvP only) they you cant abuse their power to fast-clear PvE or PvP instances, where it would be a "bit" OP.

    4. They are the leaders
As said before, they'be tasked as the leader roles of our factions. This should not to be taken lightly. Ofc, players that have more time will play them most likely as expected. So its not for the faint of heart. If they dont work out, people chose somebody else. Ofc, these votes can be cheated as well, but its hard to press discontent players to chose somebody who failed them again and again. (Best example was in RF Online ^^ The leaders changed after a time if they were unsuccessful in bringing their faction to winning).

These are just a few ideas, migth not be the best :) But can be useful ^^
