I was going to mention Chivalry but I was worried about lumping it in with M&B in case people thought I thought they were the same thing. Chivalry is awesome. Can't wait for the new Pirates vs Ninjas version.
Chivalry is just a very crude clone of Mount&Blade, and despite having better graphics it's a second-rate product. It is much more arcade, and its dismemberment system is totally laughable, the heads just wait for a slightest wind and readily pop out from every poke. It is veeery annoying. It is really hard to kill anyone without his head or something else popping out. It's not realistic in the slightest, and looks plain stupid. (subjective opinion) Hope EC will have reasonable dismemberment.
Anyone know if Drop Pods are gonna be a thing? I could understand a later update with them because the ability to get some guys together and Deep Strike into battle is strong and maybe too OP, but I am really hoping its being considered
Hrmh. It would seem that bringing up Chivalry in front of any invested Mount and Blade fan is the same as bringing up Starcraft on a Warhammer 40K Forum, mouthfrothing RAGE erupts! Anyway, Mount and Blade is a much larger game doing multiple, additional hings and of larger scale. I'm not so sure Chivalry qualifies as a crude clone in that aspect, but as you say - there's definitely an arcade touch to it. Realism wasn't mentioned, and personally - I just find Chivalry's melee to have better sword play and intensity to it. Limbs flying left and right and having heads explode by a well placed punch to the face is hilarious and positive for my experience at least! I think that Eternal Crusade will see something more around animated executions, rather than limbs falling off or being hurled about left or right during combat. - Slight edit for typos.
The Ninjas/Pirates are out in the beta. If you pre-order it, you can get access to all the 6 classes I'm playing it right now. And well. . . Ninjas are awesome and pirates actually have a battleshout that gets them drunk and regain health too
I apologize for being harsh with my words about Chivalry, my emotions were not appropriate. Thank you for your restrained answer, I really liked it. Arcade violence can really be tons of fun, it's just that I prefer more complex and realistic take. And it seems that EC is going to be more more mature than Chivalry, so I just wouldn't want that game to be an example)
Oh yeah, as for Chivalry itself - it's the kind of sheer mindless fun you can enjoy for an hour a day. Gets boring very quickly though, but in shorter doses - it´s a blast.I do hope however that Brent and the folks decide to implement some form of audible battle cries or just plain screams as we charge into eachother or stand with Bolters/Shuriken Launchers. '' FOR TEH ORDAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!!! ''
