Some people are wondering about the different classes, here is my thoughts on it (will be Space Marine based for now) Scout classes Tactical Marines Devastator Marines Assault Marines Terminator's This is just my way of thinking and I can see it work, for different factions as well with different names As for the assault marines, If you look at another shooter centric mmo (Planetside 2) they have the light assault class which uses jumppacks as well, you can use them for x-amount of time and will run out. You can improve it by putting more certs in it. This is something I can see of use for assault marines in EC as well (in a different form then ofcourse). Overall I am hoping that EC will have the option to switch between 1st person view and 3rd person view (I somehow prefer 1st person view for shooting and 3rd person for melee). Other than that I am hoping to see more info about melee, vehicles and possible flyers soon! loved to see all of this info!
I think a great reference for large scale ground troop & vehicular combat would be planet side 2. If you took elements from Planet side and Space marines, this game would be everything I had hoped for. I love RPG's, but I think this type of game should focus on the true elements of war, which is the pvp side.
If you look at it in a standard class based system game, this would probably be what you are looking at. Scout Assault Heavy Assault Medic Engineer/Support So looking at it that way, Tactical and Assault would most likely be the same class (Because they basically are, exception for the jump jets). Devastator is probably a for sure, as well as scout. But then the addition of having the support and medic is questionable, having Chaplains/Apothecaries and then Techmarines.
some were here on the forms they hint at the melee might be like dark souls. Soo you'd have a stamina bar, you could block hits, and if your timing was good you could parry and counter attack them, things like that. That sound really good to me.
I would love to see Dreadnaughts at some point in the game. They would probably be more hero unit though considering how battle worn they are. This also prompts a question: Do people on the war council get any special benefits outside of governmental?
With Space Marines in mind balancing must be very hard when you have classes such as scouts and then terminators. Different classes or armor should have prices similar to games like Planetside 2. With a Call of Duty system players would unlock terminator and then remain it. With an market to decide armor then players would have to decide if they should keep their tactical armor in order to save up for a terminator armor. Then get maybe 10 lifes with the armor until you lose it and have to re-buy a 10 life pack. Players cannot however save up all currency in 20 battles or so and then begin spawning as a godly chapter master. Like many mobile games such as those run by Mobage, currency would be reset back to $0 after the battle. Based on players ranking within the battle though they can keep a percentage of their profits for their next battle. In 40k the better the unit, the less their are which exemplifies how much more epic and legendary it is than the last. Example: Default player is standard tactical marine who must unlock armour but to equip it still needs to pay in game currency. Kill 10 people and equip heavy assault weapons such as Lascannon for 5 lifes. Kill 15 people and you can equip Assault armour for your next 5 lifes. Kill 50 people and you can don Terminator armour for the next 10 lifes. Purchase the highest armour and lose all your lifes? You spawn as a Dreadnought for 1 life. If you have 60 kills and qualify for the Terminator but choose Assault, it will cost you those 15 kills so your count goes from 60 to 45 and you cannot buy Terminator armour yet. Then the battle ends and you ranked #5 with 100 kills. You get to keep %50 of your kill points since you made #5 which equals 50 points you can now spend on your next battle. Meaning the guys who sucked will spawn as tactical marines while you will lead them as a true idol of power, in Terminator armor! SUMMARY: Getting kills unlocks weapons/armor permanently and kills in current battle earn you currency which can be used to equip those unlocked weapons/armor. To make sure everyone doesnt just stock up on currency, it will be reset after each battle if the player doesnt make it in the top 10 or so on the leaderboard. If they do, they will only receive a percentage of the accumulated currency to make sure they start the next battle with a head start, but not a guaranteed win. I believe this, with proper currency value balance, would create an atmosphere very similar to 40K lore. Honestly I got really excited visualizing this as i wrote it
As some inspiration is being drawn from Relic's "Space Marine" one area that I feel Eternal Crusade could improve upon is close quarters combat. As good as Space Marine is, melee is fairly limited and while some skill can turn the tide, largely falls into who attacks first and is a much more frantic affair. I know as a massively online game that complicates things but it would be interesting to see greater options offered for melee combat. In the fluff The Astartes are more than brutes and their encounters seem to come down to skill and agility. I'd love to see a game capture that kind of martial prowess. Even the ability to parry would help.
Exactly, TTK is secondary as long as the melee combat is simply decided by who lands the first hit like in Space Marine most of the time. The ability to tactically defend yourself to some degree even if you don't land the first hit is key to the success of this game I think.
I agree. Although melee is rather satisfying, in Space Marine, combos can make melee combat uncontrollable at times. I don't want EC turning into 40K Chivalry, but a greater control during melee combat would be a vast improvement over Space Marine.
I honestly don't know if Terminators/Dreadnoughts would be a good addition to the PVP-battles balance-wise. We already know that, say, a space marine is the equal of several orks. Imagine late-game, a battlefield filled with termies and dreads. Wouldn't be fun for a F2P Ork. Considering the popularity poll, Space Marines are going to be numerous enough, they don't need any more advantages imho, canon or not. At the very least, Terminator-armour should be available after a certain rank/level/kill-count solely for PVE-missions so we can get some action reminiscent of Space Hulk.
