What Is Combat Like In Eternal Crusade?

  1. I really doubt that, but I hope that tactical marines will be able to have meele weapon options (besides the combat knife)

    Brent,

You stated in the FF post that TTK is pretty low, can you give us a range of where you guys are at? I have concerns that melee will be useless to focus on if it's too easy to just headshot 10 guys in a row and wipe out a squad before they ever get close? Are we talking like CoD type single body shot sniper kills where people are going to be doing trick shots and other crap and you get killed instantly as soon as you enter a large battle because of the sheer volume of fire?

What are your plans to make it so you don't constantly die every 5 seconds in a major battle if the TTK is too low, and spend more time running back to the battle than fighting in it? I don't want to eliminate or weaken sniping overly much (as you can probably tell from my avatar), but I do really hope that battles feel epic with strategy and tactics, and not just whoever gets the first shot off.

The TTK was 2 seconds last time they talked about it, that's close to 4 times the PS2 TTK and around 8 times the BF 3 TTK.

  4. 1. this isn't CoD
    2. we are talking Warhammer 40k, where onehit weapons are either extremly large and unwieldy (i.e. Lascannon, Sniper) or based on superior tecnology and made for shorter ranges (i.e. Melta, Plasma Weapons, Powerweapons)
    3. if we now compare it to i.e. Space Marine (the game) where a Lascannon was the only onehit weap (on headshots) but they still fire at slow rates. So do all tabletop weapons. Most Snipers are Heavy 1 (or were, I'm not that active anymore) meaning they shoot at slow rates. All other weapons with far ranges that have onehit potential are at slow rates, too.
As far as I can remember, Weapons with short ranges and onehit potential fire at slow rates, too.

Hmm, movement debuff penalties and/or heavies taking time to setup ?? Really make you think where you're going to fire that Multi-Melta from

  6. heavy weapons should all have to set up

    Aye, that was (lame) sarcasm.

That's why TTK from a specifically Heavy weapon isn't so deadly unless you're dumb enough to sprint towards an entrenched position. That and relative RPS/reload as Ghost pointed out.

What do you mean TTK from heavy weapons isn't so deadly? As far as I know heavy weapons will be 1shot one kill on most infantry targets.

Yeah TTK was a clumsy choice of wording. I meant that their high potency is countered by their restrictions and won't at all negate melee outside of a few situations e.g. ye olde well-defended open terrain.

Oh, this, yeah it seems so.
