What if we couldn't unlock all advancements?

Discussion in 'General Discussion' started by Dreadspectre, Feb 4, 2017.

Which Advancement system would you like?

  1. Current system with 100% unlock eventually

  2. Limited AP forcing choices, likely resulting in one Vet class/highly focused area

  3. Don't really care either way

  4. Get zogged Santy!

  1. Yes? No?

Would this improve gameplay? Now even Vet players wouldn't be able to do anything and everything all the time on one character? Would this make you more attached to your character? Would people be more impressed with your dedication to a specific playstyle of gear unlocks?

Or would this be a terrible idea and suck because you don't want to level up multiple characters on the same faction for different roles?

    Vote and explain! Weeeeee voting!

    What does this do?

You're the one who needs to explain why this is good ya grot!

I think it's obvious why this is a horrible idea. Game is nowhere near designed to be played like this. Would be a nightmare trying to capture any point with most people playing JPA/Heavies so they can kill everything! Already what happens despite having the choice of switching at any time! YOU WANT TO MAKE IT WORSE??!

Didn't Brent already say that this may be their intention in the future?
Now if the advancement tree was for each toon I would be all for it but the skills reflect all of your loadouts and not each one so that kind of puts a wrench in the gears for me to cheer for this concept.

  4. nooooope.....just no. The fact that you can make a character that can handle most situations is whats helping this game at the moment. The game isnt far enough in development or have enough players to begin having characters that focus on one specialization. There just isnt enough at the moment.

I'll say from the start that I'm against the idea, however I do appreciate it, and would probably still play the game with no complains even with it if balance updates came faster. Really solidifying the top people in various roles, and cornering players in general to specialization is an interesting way to go (Camelot: Unchained is an MMO planning to go this route, and I plan to play it). It makes players really appreciate and improve on the role they select, as well as pushing even more on people to join premades(guilds) and diversify). Currently balance feels WAY to slow to keep up with them still trying to add things with the forced early release, and with the low player pop. you can't count on people taking over roles like AV properly, thought the addition of Lascannaon/Zap Gun default loadouts may help.

I like to hear new ideas, they're always interesting to read but I don't want to be locked out of any advancements.

Ultimately my position on things like this is that a lot of "innovations" in modern shooters are really just shit fluff that wastes a player's time.

I'd rather have more game modes and maps, then kill people with whatever weapon I want to. Restrictions don't make choices meaningful, they just mean you're restricted.

Let's restrict the fun! Said no sensible game developer ever.

If I could have more characters, then the answer is yes.
As it is Right now it it would be even less content you could play everyday.
  8. Asyran Eldritch Arkhona Vanguard

Wouldn't this gimp Eldar as they have more classes spread out over the same roles?

I just think that you should limit character customisation to levels, eg you get the shoulder pads with laurels on at level 4. Than buying them at level 1. I think this would help with visual realisation of what level enemy your fighting etc.

Just like I think vets should have same LP as normal guys but have no restrictions on numbers.
Vets should just look cool and look like a vet. But there more skilled. There not in terminator plate or anything.

I have no problem with the current way, but I do prefer to specialise my characters in general regardless of what games I play. If I could build two characters differently, I'd be more interested in re-rolling.
