Well people moan the prices for weapons & cosmetics in PS2 are to expensive........Eternal Crusade has gone worse and made things a lot more expensive
There is progression because you unlock better/more equipment. The criticisms of PS2 are even more impactful being that it isn't an MMO. It's meant to be a more skill based, competetive environment, and they still sell advantages. Planetside 2 has destroyed large chunks of community support for the "series" and for SOE as a whole. If your marker for success is that a game makes a bunch of money while alienating fans, well, I certainly hope EC fails, then. You pay to get better, more specialized, or simply more weapons/gear quicker. This is paid advantage. It's like paying to get another bishop in a chess match. You could still lose, sure, and may often do so if you're bad, but it demolishes any integrity of the game. Don't call it pay to win, then, call it "pay to not grind" or "pay for a mild-to-moderate advantage." It's still an ugly system and SOE is the reigning king of nickle-and-dime-you-for-fun; a wonderful example uncaring business practices in gaming.
Today is a big day in Planetside 2. We are getting a new continent, continental conquest, outfit base ownership and a bunch of other stuff. All this content is free. Maybe we should be asking how BE can be more like Planetside 2.
View: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J313mcoaa3w Judging by that video, it seems the battlefield will be just as big if not bigger than PS2 woop woop! So they do seem to be going the right direction.
The first real content in almost 2 years. Revamping existing continents for the past 2 years did not constitute as content. Spending 2 years adding lattice & other features requested in beta was unacceptable. Up until this point, the only real content PS2 has seen is the addition of the Harasser. If you haven't heard, Hossin is little over 50% complete. They have been working on the map for 2 years. Most AAA titles are produced in under that amount of time. As exciting as all this "new content" SOE is putting out, its a case of too little, too late.
Yeah I was just talking with a friend about how this is the first major content patch that this game has had in about 2 years. I was playing on Hossin earlier today and I think its absolutely brilliant. Sure half the bases are either copies or were built when Indar was being redone. Overall though I think its a wonderful content patch and has been a lot of fun.
People can keep claiming PS2 is P2W But in PS2 we never had to pay money to access a certain vehicle, class or pay $35 for a weapon
I'd consider it worse, because you could pay to access *everything* with less work. But I would agree with the other half of that. Cash-shop exclusive items would be a bad move, and I hope this stays strictly with the founder program. We're told the weapons/heroes/etc will be unique, but Miguel has recently said all founders items will have base-game, free equivalents. I'd love to have them be just re-skins, but I don't think that's what he means.
