I stand with those that say the Loyalist Space Marines should be our first targets. As has been mentioned, there was a poll somewhere in which they numbered some forty percent of respondents, and assuming that's at all representative of our final community, that's a gross majority. From a more personal standpoint, I can't stand idly by and let those fools devote their lives to the biggest irony ever conceived, the Imperium of Man.
As much of a threat as the Space Marines could be. There are a lot of factors to consider as well. Location, psychology, How much we are willing to delegate resources on frontline battle and defenses. Mostly I am concerned about the Psychology of all players who play the different factions and the people who will be free to play on the Ork faction. Regardless of the polls taken, there could potentially be a lot more Orks due to that aspect of only being on the Ork faction for those who don't buy the game and want to check it out. Also there is, as much balancing they are doing to the factions to make it fair. If they are going by Lore and the capabilities of each faction, Eldar are more of a threat than Space Marines. However I am not completely into the 40k Lore so I can't say much for the Eldar side. Just through observation and personal opinion.
The goal isn't to waste resources in a large fight to leave one exposed. The goal is to set up the other factions to fight your greatest foe while you only partially commit to the battle. Then as all others are weakened, sweep through the crippled defenses and seize all the territory available to you (that you can protect). The key to a territory is weakening all potential threats to your borders while minimizing loss for territory gain. The second rule is to never expand beyond you capability to defend, keep only what you need, appear small, then condense and solidify. The faction that appears largest on the map is the most likely to be attacked, the goal is secure only the critical locations that provide income, satisfy objectives, etc. Greed and aggression is what kills a faction in a territory game.
And at the point of what you had just said kind of validates my point. The Space Marines are KNOWN to be a large force due to that poll, it is why other factions will attack them as well. You are right in the fact of letting others fight each other, however doing that too much or for too long will provide a downfall to the fact of they WILL get more power as they take territories. I had never said anything of being greedy and outright fighting. That is obviously a fools game. If the Eldar are weakest and we KNOW we can take them and their territories why not do that and expand our own power. Granted there will be a lot of battles regardless of how careful we try to be. So there will also be positioning needed, know when to advance, when to retreat, taking the opportunities that present themselves (unless it's a too good to be true scenario) all of those factor in on taking factions down. No matter the size.
Except there's no point in wasting resources when you can set up the other factions to fail, then sweep in and seize their territory. You also don't seem to understand that holding the greatest amount of territory is something you do not want in a territory game, ever, over expansion means collapse, not power. Unless you have the population to provide a solid border defense across the entirety of your territory, you will lose it. If you've played Planetside, you'd know that territory seizing is a fool's game and almost always ends in a net loss, not a gain. You win by being a Vulture, not a 'Zerker. Take more than a fourth of the map and you'll end up with every single faction bearing down on you. Plus given the weak population of the Eldar, everyone else will be attacking them. The best move is to expand slightly, consolidate, defend, and wait. Appear weak and defenseless, then spring the trap and cripple the enemy force. Or intercept them as they attempt to pass by your territory into an enemy's. Or encircle them if they attempt to charge through yours.
I understand perfectly. I am not trying to say to do everything you are assuming I am saying. You realize we do have a like mind in terms of how things should operate. If you want to define an animal that is an exceptional scavenger, hunter and has great cunning. It would be that of a Raven like mind. but in all seriousness, being too cautious creates just as much of a loss. And realize, I am not against you. You just chose to pick things out, fill in the vague points and assume I'm being inadequate in terms of my suggestion and decided to debate over just that. A suggestion. Nothing is set in stone we'll be able to actually set strategies in place the more we know about the mapping, the placement and the the rest of the information on each of the factions.
We know enough, we know there are territories, and we know people can take them. Unless Eternal Crusade is some holy, revolutionary game (which I doubt), it will play like any other game with territories on a meta scale (RTS, FPS, TPS, TBS, etc), it's always the same war when it involves territories.
The Loyalists will be a constant battle due to their size and mutual hatred. I've stated that we should destroy or at least significantly weaken the Eldar first because they are he most logical choice for our true enemies to turn to when they are weak. In their strength they will ignore them, but crush them before they are needed and leave the loyalists with no-one to turn to in their time of need. Also they appear weak and effeminate in my eyes.
Yes, we know quite a bit. Not enough for a firm grasp on which tactics should be used and how to implement them. There are a lot of factors to consider on this. It's not always best to just wait around, poking at enemies and waiting for a good opportunity to strike them dead in one go. It's a combination of strategies. Using logic, analysis, bending the plans to fit each situation and what comes up. Plus also... It doesn't help that we are discussing this out in the open where anyone from other factions can just view this.
