What Exactly Is The Free Trial Ork Class?

Discussion in 'Orks' started by Corphy, May 17, 2014.

  1. Alright so everybody keeps saying that the free trial ork class is an ork boy.

But theres a problem with that.
    1. i just saw today that on the wiki there is no listing for ork nob as a class.
    2. apparently cybork is planned as an elite class--off topic, i would prefer this to be an 'ard boy cybork, but the thing is, cyborks don't have to be nobs.
    3. stormboyz have ork boyz and ork nobs in their ranks. same goes for lootas, slugga boyz, shoota boyz, any ork in a vehicle...basically every ork has an equivilant ork that is not a nob--other than mekboyz and painboyz--they are basically always nob sized, though not within tabletop, they are something that should always be on par with the average nob physically.

so is the free class ork boy? if so, then this covers shoota boyz, slugga boyz, stormboyz, burna boyz(sub class of slugga boy for purposes of class-AKA slugga boy with flamer)..
or is the free class a slugga boy, or shoota boy, and nothing more?
OR is it just a nob with less options than everybody else? orks get big, and this could be a case of an ork waaagh that just had the chance to get REALLY big orks, so that the basic guys were as big as most would see nobz as being.
i know the devs say ork boyz, but how is that different from payed classes? if i bought the game, am i being a stormboy, or (technically), a stormboy nob? also, the devs have not mentioned anything about how orkz can wield a shoota in one hand, instead of a slugga--as a pistol. will this be represented in game, with free players using sluggas, and payed players able to get a shoota in one hand before long? this would be an exception to horizontal progression, which isn't that big a deal.

In regards to the Nob not being shown in the Wiki as a class, I decided to not include it as so, in the same way that Exarchs and Sergeants aren't classes but rather ranks. I'm not sure how EC is going to handle them, seeing as how you can have Nobs as a Rank AND a Class, but until confirmation I decided to assume for now that it's just a Rank.

And when a class is sorted as primary or elite in the Wiki, again, that's just inferring based on what we know so far. We know Terminators are Elite classes, and they're kinda the Ork equivalent (I think), so I assumed they would be an Elite.

And I don't know how they plan to divide Ork Boyz but I assume that a Stormboy is a different class from a regular boy, and so on and so forth.

  3. but they HAVE said that the free class is not a nob, as they are on par with space marines/the other races classes.
i see your reasoning though. i just hope the devs come and clarify this.

I can only emphasize that F2P Boys main disadvantage over people who bought the game will be limited diversity of weapons. I.e. I could imagine F2Pers can only go as regular Slugga Boys (Choppa+Slugga) or Shoota Boys (Regular Shoota), while "Nobs" can go for Heavy Fire Support (Big Shoota/Deffgun/Snazzgun), Fast Attack (Stormboy) or Utility (Mekboy) - or as one of the Elite Classes (probably Nobs in Mega-Armor/Weirdboyz, etc), if they have sufficient personal resources.
  5. so are there just no regular ork boys in this game, where everybody is a nob, but F2P people are just only allowed to be slugga or shoota boys?

also, elite classes are confirmed to include meganobz, skarboy kommando nobz, and cyborks. not sure if there are going to be more.
and wierdboyz should NEVER be an elite class. they are hero class material easily.

    also, what about painboyz?
  6. i think skaboy kommando and cyborks are heroes
since we have only 1 elite class for all factions right now and for orks its the meganob
oh and for sure we will see more heroes, elites and regular classes in the future :)
  7. no they are not heroes--read the wiki.
if they ARE heroes, thats utter bullcrap and needs to be fixed. cyborks are NOT hero level, nor are kommandos.

    warbosses, wierdboys, big meks
    those are hero tier classes.
    warlords are hero+

As I have stated on another thread, the categorization of Elite or Hero done in the Wiki is done quite simply based on their tabletop codex equivalence. So Hero classes will generally be only HQ units in the tabletop.

The main difference between Hero and Elite classes is really the requisition point cost and the cooldown, so it's not such a big deal what category they fall under. If they fall under the Hero category, then they should have a heroic level of influence on the battlefield.
  10. yes.
an example of a non-HQ unit being hero-tier, IMO, would be a Harlequin Troupe Leader.
