You forgot, tonnes of emotes and voice shouts!!! I want 100 Space Marines charging and shouting 'FOR THE EMPEROR!!!!'
Yes, me too and I believe most of us. Should not have Dance - I don't care for dance, any other game can have and I'll enjoy it, but who want's to see a large suite guy in a dark, hostil world, dancing?! Instead I suggest motivational animations, like victory, taunt, to battle, with me! Whaaaa!
These are all great ideas and suggestions, especially for No Dancing Emotes. What it should have: 1. In game communication - COME BACK OVER! Playing Planetside 2 has introduced me to a new technology of in game communications. It has been an ideal system for keeping in touch with my allies, squad/platoon, Outfit and commanders. It certainly easier than typing a text warning my squad about incoming tanks. 2. Dodge, Block, Cover system - Protect yourself when fighting. One of the most ANNOYING thing I found in Space Marine, was the lack of a cover system and blocking in melee combat. You're a super human soldier in the future, using cover and blocking an incoming blow should be second nature to killing an enemy. 3. Weather system - it's snowing and raining shells. Half the fun of fighting in a battle is the weather. You can fight on a clear day or night. Or fight in the blinding snow. 4. Jumping - Get up there! Another annoyance I found in Space Marine was No Jumping. 5. Force players to work together. The point of the game is to have team play and coordination with the players. Eliminate that "Lone Wolf" concept that's been built by many FPS titles in the past. There's nothing in the history of man that shows a great war was won by ONE man. What is should NOT have: 1. The Space Marine game Mechanics - Seriously. The game was lacking in almost everything when it came to player movement and melee combat. No blocking, cover system, No jumping, the list goes on. 2. Don't have health recover from executing a fatality or finishing move. 3. Don't use Space Marine as your building block for the game. Seriously, it was just terrible when it came to game play. Avoid the combo system. 4. No Emotes. Dont build anything that has a dance, a jig, or some other typical mmo emote.
1. agreed would be a must have 2. agreed 3. well weather would be nice but I dont want terrible implemented rain or snow looking aweful like in so many mmos 4. must have! 5. definately but how? There are always some noob players trying the lone wolf and even if they fail they don't want to teamwork with others. To avoid this you really have to implement some reward system which only works if you participate in huge battles and work together with other players. 6. Minions or NPCs. Yes I think its a good idea to let players who dont buy stuff only let play orks. But whats next? Players wo are dedicated enough will buy nobs or other caracters and will play them instead, players who aren't will stop playing and stop playing orks. So what do we have now? An ork fraction built of nobs. In my opinion we need all the f2p orks beeing grouped in a 4-5 ork squad with one "player ork" which doesn't look different from the orks of his squad (so he can't be focused). So just make the NPC orks weaker but deploy them on the field as cannonfodder and decoy.
I saw it once. Public guild! If you are out of a specific group, so you are in a public group. It's all about psychology and history behind it, I mean, together is good, alone is bad. My suggestion: or something is made be beaten by 5 or more player, or a single one, no more "I'll try, I'm so good", one hour later "Help me! guys?". The game mechanism should be intended lead player fell like they were truly inside of a community. Most (most?) of the games are xp based systems, e.g., kill and get xp, and you get level/rank. So this way you can be level/rank 10, just by killings things around - you know what I mean. What if your experience were truly based on your work team success and fail? Would't players start the game looking to form groups or be party of one?
Collision detection is a must for me as well. Just the simple fact that it allows for formation fighting is a huge plus. 1 - A nice bonus if they have the time for it but not a must have in my opinion. Ventrillo or similar does the job. 2 - If there's physical objects that can't be shot through and you can crouch then doesn't that automatically = cover system? I'm not keen on the type of cover system where you press a button to hunker down in some scripted position and then slide along the physical object left or right as need be. As long as the rock or whatever can't be magically shot through like it's not there then that is enough.
Can generally agree with this, though I haven't played Space Marine so I can't comment on those comparisons. I will say though, I don't like "sticky" cover systems where you press a button to enter/leave cover, or your character tries to auto-cover near certain objects. Those always cause my character to go diving and rolling in places I don't want him to, then he gets shot in the face. Gears of War was really bad about this: "Enemies ahead! I better take cover behind this wall." *pushes cover button* "Wait, no, what are you doing? DON'T JUMP OVER THE W--" *ded* " Fffffffffff..." Crouch, prone, and some good solid objects are the only "cover system" I need. Regarding health recovery, definitely agree. If you ask me, the only way to recover health outside of respawning should be the race's medic unit (apothecary, mad dok, whatever the eldar use...).
When it comes to jumping, it just need to look good with all factions. I find it the most problematic with Marines. The jump HAS to look proper and not like your typical MMO-character jump. We're talking power-armour and a shitton of muscle mass here. Eldar I'd imagine would do backflips and all kinds of stunts when they jump. Ballerina moves and all that stuff.
