I have been very quiet. I have been very patient. I have been flexible. But now, I just don't know anymore. I dropped $120.00 on a Captain's pack the very first day when pre-orders went live. Now the game is launching- "Warhammer 40,000: Eternal Crusade is now available on Steam Early Access with a special pre-order 12 weapon package, 20% discount of retail price at $39.99 USD" I was able to buy just 10 items with my Rouge trader points....Am I missing something? And if I am, I apologize in advance. Could someone explain to me what spending $80.01 more dollars actually did for me? When I spent that money, the game that was promised is not the game I am getting, and I understand that things change and I am OK with that, but what is being done for those who took that leap of faith and spent that kind of money? I get to play alpha and beta versions of the game? Wooppee.....I have tried to stay away from playing those as to not get burned out before the game went live, jumped in to try things when they came out and then jumped back out. I hope I am not the only one that feels this way, and if I am then alright, but something just seems off with this whole announcement. I feel a bit taken advantage of and am trying hard to shake that feeling, help me.
You quite literally answered your own question one sentence later. I really don't think you can get upset at them for selling you an unfinished product. After all, we all knew what we were buying (an alpha with some perks) and still paid money for it. If you feel very strongly, just don't repeat the same mistake. That's about all anyone can do at this point.
The whole point of buying captain/sergeant packs was to get earlier access plus some points to buy rogue trader stuff when it gets implemented. You can't always be sure when you're pre-purchasing something that you'll get what you paid for. If you don't like it then don't preorder.
Yea....but the game isn't exactly what I paid for anymore. I am in no way upset about being sold an unfinished product. It's more $40 vs $120, is what that extra 80 got me really worth it, and I don't think so. Is what was able to buy with my RTP going to be better than what the people who are paying the 40 now going to be able to get. Eh and you are exactly right, I learned from my mistake, this is will be the last time I ever pre-order a game sight unseen or become a "founder."
@Spleen you're getting the twelve pre-order weapons in addition to your RTS weapons, plus the copper weapons if you bought early enough (which should include you). Now whether that's worth an extra $80 with early access is up to you. But yes, you are getting more. I think the pre-order weapons are all called Venerable, but really the only thing I remember clearly was @Noromiz feeling betrayed his eldar weapon names weren't picked.
Going by the math, you saved $20 over Early Access and got the 8 founders items (I think they're the bronze weapons but don't quote me on that. I think there were also 4 more for a while for GDC too if you bought it then) over paying full price for the game +RTP. I guess you also got the earliest access to the game, but it's not like that matters much at this point. When the game launches it'll be going up to $50, so you'll have saved $30 total over release people, and I think they might be removing a bunch of the RTP, so that might be some extra value there. The other thing is the PC only-launch is only a soft launch, and they're not going to go "good job everyone, we're done with the game forever and drop it" since they're still making the console version. Especially since they're hoping to make it a service game with free updates and cosmetics/hats and such.
This made me go back and see what the Captains pack included, the older wiki says: "[8]Captain Pack: $120 grants access to everything in the Sergeant Pack, plus a limited edition banner and a total of 150,000 points (25% bonus). This pack has no delay for accessing the Early Game Modules (which differ from alpha or beta access, which are still "first come, first serve"), gaining access approximately in January 2015." So I think the only thing we are missing is the limited edition banners right?
1. EA doesn't give you bronze blings, so yes you got exclusive stuff already 2. Whatever EA got you get too, according to others. Can't quote but I'm pretty sure that's the case too. 4. Forum Founder's Lounge 3. You got a hell lot more RTP points and got to play earlier than EA did 4. You get to play UAT, which includes contents that are being tested before EA gets to play 5. Founders = project subjected to change, it's just what founders are If you didn't play UAT, didn't actively participate in the founder's lounge, didn't play alpha regularly, then it is you not enjoying your privileges actively.
