Some of wh40k lore is based off of history, especially the regiments of the imperial guard. What is your favorite army? http://imgur.com/ZuyaZSv
Pfft... I have never seen any Teuton soldiers in 40k... (coming from a Space Marine whose chapter was based completely off the Teutonic Order) In all seriousness... I love the different Teutonic Order inspired motifs found in the Black Templars, like our Iron Crosses (Iron crosses were not invented in WW2!) our stylized armor as well as our tabards.
Alexander The Greats Macedonian/Persian force. One of the first professional armies of all time, armed with state-of-the-art weapons ( for the time a 21ft long pointy stick was impressive) and never lost a single battle.
Spartans for their skill and prowess and for being the first proffessional army in the ancient times, Mongols for conquering more land than the Macedonians or Romans. And Vikings (Varyags) - great sailors, merchants, warriors, bodyguards and raiding experts. They even went as far as besieging Constantinople itself.
The Teutons are surely one of my favorites, closely followed by the Romans because well, the kicked ass and the Dutch.(some fatherland ish love perhaps, but I am quite proud of what such a small country was capable off.)
Wehrmacht Blitzkrieg doctrine that was used was impressive for the time, and brought them a rapid progress on the battlefield plus their tanks and planes were superior to the other in technology. Wehrmacht army uniforms looked good no wonder he is still in use as Inspirations for games or movies or series
