well we cant expect a TT game to have "realistic" ranges can we, after all how big is the average table.. "hey dave, whats the range on that Lascannon?" "100feet mate" youd be shooting miniatures 3 houses away lol hence the TT ranges of 20" out to 60", 5 foot being more then enough to ensure you can hit Daves unit at the far end of the table with a good roll lol
My only gripe would be if any weapon not designated as a sniper type weapon has an effective range similar to the sniper, outside of maybe rockets. I hate games like COD where assault rifles can be used like high power sniper rifles. Effective range on weapons is crucial for good strategy building. Without it, its a free for all. And as a side note, sniper type weapons should not have "quick scope" capabilities. That's the biggest load of crap ever designed and has no right being in a strategic mmo shooter.
in the year 2014, we have lazer cannons that can fire with a range of 7mi, and you are telling me that, in the year 40k, the lazers they came up with can only fire 140m? lololol.
they might be only firing that far because, yes in the year 2014 we may have lasers that can fire 7miles, but in the year 2014 we also have computers that cant render a 1000 players avatars over a virtual distance of a 1000m without crashing a game platform
thats not really true. some of us do have the capability to render that much. plus, the game comes out in 2015... not 2014.
I would think a flame thrower would be at most 15 meters because a flame thrower is basically a super soaker with a lighter at the end to ignite the liquid fuel.
Sure, some folks do. The unfortunate reality, however, is that a game hoping for such massive scale as EC has to play to the lowest common denominator. There will still end up being folks who just can't play because their computer isn't up to snuff, but imagine if you had to go out and buy a top-of-the-line rig at release just to be able to play.
no it doesnt. thats the whole point about scalable graphics. you scale to the highest denominator and then let ppl downgrade their graphics as necessary. it is ridiculous to purposely decrease overall quality simply because a bunch of people cannot afford good computers when it is incredibly easy to simply downgrade for just those people.
its all well and good saying some people can, but the obvious flipside is some people cant it's been said before on the forums, exactly what we can and cant do in terms of EC game world physics will resolve down to.... what they think the single world server can handle, what they think players pc's can handle, and what makes for effective and enjoyable gameplay if we start asking for too much we could easily end up with the Team having to fall back on the "last resort" of multiple servers and a divided EC population and we dont want that if we can avoid it do we
Yeah, but you can't prevent people using the lascannon because their spec doesn't support rendering players over 1000m, therefore when weapons and other in-game items are considered, the devs have to consider the lowest denominator...
