It's mostly because GW wants to keep their writers portraying Chaos as mindless rabble in order to boost sales of all those Ultramarine, Blood Angel, Dark Angel and Space Wolf miniature squads they're turning out. Why do you think there are less than a handful of Chapter specific Chaos miniatures squads on the GW store? Chaos Space Marine Terminators ..., One option listed on the GW store and that's not even Chapter specific. Loyalist Terminator Squads its 5 or 6 options to choose from if I recall correctly all Chapter Specific. You don't think there are several of the old guard writers out there @ Black Library that want to portray some of the traitor legions as an effective, cohesive fighting unit that are still loyal the ideals of Horus as far as liberating the Imperium from the God Imperor? That still see their cause as just? That could fend off the corruption of the Warp? I'd bet there are a few authors out there that would love to create such a storyline.. But you know GW would have none of that.
I, personally, find the idea of resisting the corruption of the Warp a ridiculous concept for people who have served it for so long. The very concept severely weakens all the lore we hear of Chaos corruption, especially if every Astartes Tom-Dick and Harry can resist it for millenia. Take the Alpha Legion and Night Lords for example. They might think they don't serve Chaos, but I'd be very disappointed if this wasn't an act of denial or delusion.
Thats how i personally view it as well. They simply shun it and not embrace it, but there isnt much they can do about it in the long run. They both have tainted aspect already.
Personally I think the Alpha Legion and Night Lords are completely delusional about their 'resistance.' I think the game mirrors that as well if you collect Alpha Legion or Night Lords were you (can) give them marks of Chaos. You don't become marked by a god by being half-assed about it.
