    Ten Brothers

    Short background

A warband formed out of the Thousand Sons consisting of the marines led by Ashar and his 9 apprentices. The Ten Brothers are still in good relations with the Thousand sons and although technically still part of the Thousand Sons they are working independently most of the time. Ashar was a paragon of brotherhood before the Rubric, which had an extreme effect on his psyche. The loss of his friends drove him on a quest to research a way to cure them, which the warband still marches. The warband is only a hundread strong with 10 sorcerors, but reinforced by thousands of willing humans and beastmen recruited from Prospero or their own Homeplanet of Duat, A metropolitan world of millions protected by the "Apprentices", a force of humans trained by the sorcerers of the Ten Brothers. They also guard a forge world, which is in the process of being turned into a hell forge, they have captured for the Dark Mechanicus in exchange for the newest equiqment and special orders, giving them access to the horrific inventions of the hereteks like Gholams and Psy-engines. The Ten Brothers also often recruit on planets they bypass aswell and when encountering an alien or abhuman population they often try to take specimen and start a population on Duat to increase diversity and add more manpower to their non marine forces.

    Appearance
Ashar prefers to try to maintain the identity of the thousand sons before the Rubric, refusing to leave behind the old Red and silver color scheme. They have however followed their brethren into taking robes into their equiqment, even giving them to the standard marines. Each marine has their cult sigil on their right shoulderpad with the name of the marine carved under it, replacing the tzeentch sigil of the thousand sons, and a silver sun with an X inside of it on the left.

    Hope you like it.

    Founding Chapter: Unknown
    Founding: 13th Founding
Chapter Master (Chief Librarian): Zacharias Ducayne
    Homeworld: None, Fleet-based
    Specialty: Void Warfare and Boarding
Battle Cry: Deliver them to the Warp!

This Chapter (formerly known as the Vanguard Swords) was created during the accursed 13th Founding from an unknown Chapter.

Their sole purpose was to forever travel the Warp, exploring the darkest corners of the galaxy to bring either the Light of the Emperor or His Wrath. However, after the first decades of constant warp travel, the innevitable began to happen.

The Chapter itself does not worship Chaos, in fact, they still bring the enemies of the Imperium to their knees, but as it always happens with the Warp, mutations started to show. However, most of their mutations were of the mind instead of the body (since their geneseed is too strong to allow large mutations).

They started to see the Warp as a Godly Realm where the Emperor stood eternal watch against the Chaos Gods. They consider themselves to be Chosen Travellers, banishing Fallen Angels (Daemons) and other Chaos-worshippers.

    +++ Ranks +++

This Chapter also possess an extremely high amount of Librarians. Their organizational structure places them amongst the most powerful and revered members, this is further acknowledged by special ranks amongst them. Those who cannot feel the Empyrean, but are considered important or usable for the Crusade act as cannon fodder, scouts or any other role deemed necessary for the Chapter.

-- Primus Librarian (Chief Librarian) --
-- Warp Videns (Navigators and trained Librarians) --
-- Praemonstrator (Librarian seeked for advice) --
-- Anima Cruciator (Librarian specialized in torture, both physical and psychic) --
    -- Praetor (Combat Librarian) --
    -- Acolitus (uninitiaded Librarian) --
-- Servus (member of the Chapter that does not possess the Warp-gift) --

    +++ Fleet +++
The Forgotten Swords have the largest and most advanced fleet amongst successor Chapters, consisting of two Battle Barges (Imperator Irae; Righteous Zeal), three known Vanguard Cruisers (Sanctum of Glory; Tempestus; Imperialis) and several Nova frigates. They excel in void warfare and boarding protocols, usually achieving objectives with cold precision.
    +++ Recruitment +++

Since the Forgotten Swords are Fleet-based, their recruitment sources range from carefully selected gifted prisoners and volunteers from planets in the vicinity. All recruits must go through an extensive scan to detect any trace of corruption or instability. Once they're officially in training, one of the Anima Cruciators is constantly inflicting light intrusions in their minds, he gives them headaches that can exponentially grow worse if the subject's will is not controlled, he can make them hear voices or see things that are not there so they can learn to shut them off and he plants doubt in their minds, so they learn to fight against it.

Of course, not all of them make it, some go insane and loose themselves in the bowels of the ship, to be consumed by their own madness, some, in their constant pain, choose the easiest way out through the airlock, their madness replaced with lack of oxygen and regret. Those who pass the years of constant torture are formally welcomed to the Chapter as Praetors.
+++ Relations with the Imperium +++

As it is with the Imperium, the Inquisition considers them to be excommunicate traitoris and all records of them are either burned or destroyed. The few encounters with Imperial Forces end as quickly as they begin, in confusion. The Forgotten Swords' troops usually give aid to desperate Imperial positions being besieged by other threats; by never setting foot on ground, they provide aerial and orbital support with precise bombardments on enemy positions or engage in void warfare with their ships. As soon as the enemy is vanquished, they move on, without offering any sort of hail.

    Sterilization of Salvus (522.M39)
By the turn of the millennium, the fragments of the White Rose crusade fleets that had been scattered in the Warp Storm of Raevir had finally fought their way back together. What was once a might Astartes fleet of undeniable strength was now tattered and scarred by the flames of eternal crusade. Under pressure from the Orenian Enclave of the Inquisition, the Crusade fleet was returned to the Orenian sector to pacify local unrest at home and in neighboring sectors while replenishing its strength. In 522.M39, the Salvus subsector rose up in revolt of Imperial Compliance. The White Rose, ordered by Lord Inquisitor Aegis, were sent to crush the upstart rebellion. This operation, recorded as operation Salvian Shield, was the first time the entire Rose Crusade fleet would be reunited since nearly a millennium before. Under the guidance of Grandmaster Hadrian Fitzgerald, the White Rose fell upon the Salvian rebels with an aggression most easily comparable to the Blood Angels assault squads. The total victory (discounting the massive loss of questionably innocent life incurred by Rose orbital bombing) was heralded as the resumption of the White Rose's eternal crusade.

    Notable Roses:
    The Brothers Chivay
In recent centuries the focal story of the White Rose epic has revolved around two brothers seemingly marked by destiny: The Chivays. Descendants of the once great Chivay line (made famous across the Orenian sector by Saint Owyn), the brothers were born into an era of hardship. Political turmoil coupled with several generations of weak Chivay rulers had put their dynasty on the brink of eradication. Seeing that the end of their line was inevitable, Lord Adarin Chivay arranged for both of his sons to compete in the honor duels of the White Rose that their legend might at least end in service to the Imperium. With the two chivay brothers, Peter and Thomas, enrolled in different duels, Adarin hoped that at least one of his sons would beat their competition and earn a spot amidst the Astartes. This is where their legend began. Through days straight of solo honor duels, the two Chivay brothers managed to beat out all of their competition. For the first time ever, two members of the same house had earned a spot in the Rose.

In training the distinct personalities of the two came to light. Peter, the older brother, was blunt in his phrasing but possessed a certain charisma that made him a natural leader. He was typically found at the thick of the combat with his soldiers when the time came, and surrounded by his war council at the holotable for days before expected engagements ensuring that the plan was laid out perfectly. Thomas, the younger brother, was a favorite amongst the men. His less-than-refined mannerisms and humor combined with his ruthless and impassioned battlefield demeanor created a young noble Astartes that reflected the values of his common brethren. He too it seemed would be marked for leadership.

At the battle of Aesterwald, a frozen wasteland that served as the capital of the xenos kharajier empire, the brothers proved their worth. LZ coordinates in the invasion group's drop pods had been corrupted in transit by freezing damage upon entry into orbit, scattering the dispatched company of Rose Astartes all across the intended region. The brothers didn't miss a beat in rallying the assembled forces, and through the course of what turned into a very costly campaign for the White Rose, adapted their tactics to crush the kharajier forces opposed to them. Thomas Chivay often uses a cape fashioned out of the xenos' hide with his battle regalia as a token of his first legendary victory.

For nearly three centuries the brothers continued to shine bright as true heroes of the Imperium. Peter served as Grandmaster of the Rose upon the death of Grandmaster d'Aquila (a promotion which caused surprisingly less friction than expected), and Thomas became Marshall of the Order of the Flaming Rose. When the crusade fleet arrived at the Aeldin Sector, on the fringes of Imperial space, they were met with heavy resistance from a force known as the Teutonica, a human empire with notable Eldar support. In a campaign eerily similar to the conflicts of Hanseti, Eldar rangers provided harrasment fire support for the defending forces in the hab spires of their hive cities. Reports detail that Thomas himself had just finished leading the assault on the Teutonican Emperor's spire when eldar long rifle rounds punctured through his torso in a volley. His Confanonier Baldir Toov (who would succeed him) sprang into action and siezed control of the Rose forces before they fell into disarray, and ordered an immediate tactical retreat from the planet. Peter, honoring the legend of St. Owyn and recognizing the eerie semblance to his brother's death, ordered an Exterminatus upon the planet.

    Ghosts of Death

Fellow Space Marines! The Sargeant Mark Idonus is here! We shall cleanse this war from the xenos heretics that stand before us!

I have led many battles in the name of the Emperor (our undying Lord) and prevented an Exterminatus on a home planet distant from where we are.

One of those battles were againts a whole hive fleet of Tyranids, the xenos bursted into the planet like bees on the honey, we couldn't do nothing, we got hit by surprise, but then I standed in front of all the misery and death that was the planet i was standing in, and with a great shout of war, we could hold the xenos back at our Manufactorum while our Tech Priests were trying to make a weapon that could hold them back. And after weeks of defending, dying and suffering, the Tech Marines finished a prototype weapon that only lasted one use as it was the only thing they could do, a bomb that would wipe everything that wasn't human DNA, the bomb was dangerous, as it could malfunction and even damage our DNA turning us into deprived monsters that would be half tyranid, half human. As the bomb exploded we survived, but at a cost of the 75% of who were alive before the bomb detonation, as the people who were more than 5 metres away from the bomb did die in a horrible death. The planet was safe, only a few survived, and those few are now my eternal allies for the glory of the battled. We're a new sub-chapter from the Ultramarines, we're the Ghosts of Death and we come into battle without the enemy knowing that they're already dead.

We are souless and we feel no pain, when one of our brothers die, we are driven into a zealous rage worse than any Ork Warchief, in fact, many Warchiefs had fled against our roar of war alongside with my battlebrothers behind me with the scythes of the destruction, we shall not only give death, but fear into any xenos kind, to make sure they never come again to the planet they've ever planned to come, as when they come into the planet, there is no way out, they'll either escape mentally traumatized by our savagery or die to not remember the day they all tried to deal with the Ghosts of Death.

Our homeworld is now hidden on the depths of space, it was once called Kriss Umbra, but now it doesn't need a name, because it's only known to us. We are but a few space marines, reaching 500 on good times, but we are usually 200, enough for us to take down an ork invasion. Our actual Chapter Master and Deathlord is Mark Idonus, for 100 years he has been on the place and noone tried to take his rank.

"We are nor living, nor dead, we are remnants of what was our chapter, and they'll feel our scream through their skulls and chests" - Deathlord Mark Idonus

Our armor has been crafted with the scarred armors of our dead brothers on the terrible day of the bomb, our paint patterns makes us remember many things about what do we fight for and why.

The red on the neck and eagle is to remember the blood of our brothers, who will be remembered for eternety on the rightful eagle of the emperor, and the red on the pipes are the blood of our enemies, to show that they are below the emperor and shall never defy him or his word.

The Blue backpack makes us not forget about the bomb, too, about how our numerous brothers that did not survive the experimental bomb and had to be killed as the mutants they had become, blue was the color of the bomb fire.

The golden hands makes us remember that The Emperor is always with us, and our killing hand is his will and nothing will stop those hands unless they kill whoever controls them.

The purple around all the body means the night that falls upon our enemies when our fleet blocks the sunlight and when the light gets back on, no enemies remain.

The Black on our wrists makes us not forget that we're all bounded to a destiny, death is inevitable, that is why this is like a shackle, a curse on the human body that someday will perish.

Our ranks are divided by the ammount of enemies one has slain, but the three last are but the tests that one must pass:
DEATHLORD - The best rank upon our men, there shall only be one Deathlord on the chapter, they are distinguished by the skull helmet they wear, and the skull knees they have. They are all psychics, with own spells of death and doom to bring their enemies to ashes. Their weapons are a dual double headed scythes, with a venom that it doesn't need to deal a fatal blow to kill the foes he encounters, because the venom is so strong it can even stop a Tyranid Carnifex in merely seconds.

DEATHRATTLE - Our second best rank, there are three Deathrattles on the chapter, they wear skulls on their shoulders instead of the chapter icon, representing they're the harbingers of the Deathlord, obeying every action and order by a clean, deathly blow. If one Deathrattle wants to reach Deathlord, it must pass three different tests, the first test is about surpassing one's mental limits, fighting their worst nightmare, the second test is about feeling no pain at all, even from cuttings or dismemberments, and the last and final test, the Deathrattle must kill the Deathlord on a honorful battle against him. If the Deathrattle wins, it is honored with the new and highest rank of Deathlord, and one Deathrattle place will be open, but if he fails on any of the three tests, he will be honored on the wall of honor, where his skull will be placed, on the pool alongside with the other conestants, not many have tried, even less have succeeded.

Everyone who is in the Ghosts of Death must choose between Doomguns or Blades, both are equally hard to achieve entry. If they want to enter the Blades, they have to learn the damage it can do and how to use it right and move without being seen. As the Doomguns test, they must learn the weight of our Doom Bolters, a heavier and more powerful version than the average bolter, and then shoot down targets with pinpoint accuracy

SCYHEMASTERS - Gazing upon the third rank are the Scythemasters, masters fighting with scythes, as fast as wind, and invisible as ghosts, they are easily distinguished by the White and Black helmet and their dual scythes on the backpack. Blades can earn the title of Scythemasters, when they proof their skill by fighting a Green Tide of ork scum, only with a single scythe, if the Blade succeeds by killing them all or at least a thousand of those orks including the Warboss, they are in the team of Scythemasters. One Scythemaster can be inside a team of Blades, being the captain of such.

BLADES - The average melee fighting squads, trained to use the scythe like it was a dagger, they move swiftly like they had no armor at all. Their armor pattern is as the normal, but they have a scythe on hand and a skull on the left side of the armor, as on the right they proudly have the chapter's icon. Their armors are specially made to sustain teleportation, it is painful, but alongside with time, they learn to ignore it, and when they teleport into the battle, there is no head that won't roll.

DOOMMASTERS - The best Elite in the area of range shooting, the Doommasters have pinpoint accuracy and are enough strong to wield one heavy bolter and feel no fatigue about the weight, and taking this advantage, we enchance the heavy bolter with custom ammunition and extra barrels for more shooting. Their armor pattern are the same as others, but they have skulls on their knees and one on the backpack where they store the bullets. One Doommaster can be inside a team of Doomguns, being the captain of such.

DOOMGUNS - The average ranged squad, they are equipped with our Doom Bolters, custom bolters modified by our Techpriests, these Doom Bolters are heavier than the average bolter, but it has much more firepower than the normal one. These Doomguns are highly trained with these bolters making them excellent shooters on the battlefield.

GHOSTS - These are the lowest rank on our chapter, these are the scouts we can always count for, they are trained in a way so not even our best sensors can detect them, their invisibility field pulses electromagnetic waves, so they're invisible to heat sensors or movement radars or any kind of known surveillance device, they infiltrate and take down strategic targets, selected by the Deathrattles.

    ------------------------------------------------------------
    [IMG]

The objective of our war strategies are to succumb terror into the enemie's eyes and brain, and never forget what they see.

    THE LAST NIGHT

Suddenly, in the middle of the war, a giant spaceship appears on the sky, blocking the sun from showing the sight of our enemies, and when there's nothing but darkness, orange lightings come out from the spaceship, everywhere on the enemy's side, while they don't see anything or they're busy trying to turn on torches to see, they don't achieve such thing or the only thing they see is a Blade or Blademaster going to them with one of the scythes cutting through their necks. With this fast movement, all our troops has already deployed on the enemy lines and killed almost all of it. For the remaining, Doomguns and Doommasters take place into the front line of shooting, going forward, slow but efficiently killing the enemy, even if they're hidden behind the fortress, our aim is true and will not fail.

DEATH IS OUR HERALD, WE'RE HIS COURIERS
As our enemy rests happy on their base, resting and offguard over a won battle, our spaceship, still invisible, throws four plasma balls, but not only plasma balls that explode on a burning plasma fire thus melting the enemy, in each of those balls, there are the three Deathrattles and the Deathlord, which then kill the remaining enemies, who are screaming of fear and panic becaude of the confusion. Whilst Deathrattles kill enemies, the Deathlord casts his worst power of them all, the one that could kill them and a large area of living beings, the one that he calls "Ashes to ashes, dust to dust", if he succeeds of such spell, a grey smoke comes out around the Deathlord, turning all living things into dust and ashes, in a very large radius from, the Deathlord. In the case that the spell fails, the Deathlord is affected by the smoke and is turned into dust alongside the Deathrattles. Upon finishing the smoke, Deathrattles and the Deathlord, gather some dust of the enemy, grab a blue fire torch and post it on the ground, then they pour the dust in the flames and screams come out of the torch, the souls of the fallen are being burned on the purgatory.

    ZEALOUS SLAUGHTER
This is but not a strategy, but a common reaction when one of our brothers die, all Ghosts of Death that are on the field scream louder than a million orks shouting for War, we make a shout of anger, rage and revenge for our fallen brother. Our eyes will burn the flames of vengance and we will slaughter the enemy, not only kill it, but turn them into tiny pieces of meat and blood, our methods are brutal but effective, Imperial Soldiers who would witness this action, wouldn't be able to sleep in days, because the screams of our zealous brothers make the ground tremble and full the enemy heart with fear, there is no living thing yet, that hasn't fled from our scream of anger.

    ------------------------------------------------------------

We are the Ghosts of death, we do not only bring death,
but despair and fear on our enemies' minds.
