Warp Spider Jump Mechanics

Thinking of a jump mechanic for Warp Spiders I immediately think of Blinks from various other games such as the recent Destiny or Shadowrun for the Xbox 360.

Thinking on it more I think about the Dawn of War II opening cinematic Warp Spider running at and flanking the Devastator. Then I remembered years ago I played a game called Champions Online. I don't know if it's the same now but there was a mobility ability which functioned in a sort of blink manner. Activate it then your character would temporarily become transparent, have increased move speed and gain flight. Adapting that sort of thing into Eternal Crusade would be neat. Add to it ignore unit/wall collision to give it a feeling of teleport into buildings or something.
Though unlikely because while I have no clue about how programming works, this would probably be a great deal of effort to implement for just 1 unit. Something like that would have to at least be an Elite. Plus it would need some way for players to track it, so it doesn't get abused and op, like a way to tell the direction they went at the start and a flash at the end.
Other than the above my ideas are have it function as a normal jump just can't be targeted or seen in the air to simulate teleporting? Function like Combat Blink in Smite? Bring up a zoomed in minimap for effective range then click and drag for facing where you will appear?
All this thinking makes my brain meats hurt!

Actually, it would probably work fine. The way the Veteran mechanic has been explained is as follows:

You are a member of the Base Class
    You tick the "Veteran" box
That gives you a higher equipment points cap
Deploying as that Veteran class costs you RP

Basically it's a Base Class upgraded to Elite Status, with the same deployment restrictions (might be a bit cheaper?). Exarchs would certainly fit within this model, especially if you need to complete a class' unlocks to Veteran it.

Someone previously stated, that if this warp hazard is implemented for the warp spiders then it should be add for any other assault troops with jumpacks has hazards occur to them too. I support that. Either remove it or implement it for all races.

The most knowned one would be the shock boys with their very archaic jumpacks. They are even more at risk than spiders.

If ever warp spiders are implemented I don't see the need to use a random chance to die or DOT effect because of the risk to go in the warp. Having a fuel full jumpacks on your back is a risk by itself but it won't be taking into account for the SM or CSM (as jumping in the air when you think about it). Why would you handicap spiders in this way, even if it's to limit the abuse of warping. There's many other ways to make it risky : cooldown, jumping in a swarn of enemies, limitation of short warping etc

I agree that in a lore wise theory it makes sens but in a shooter game where already everything is shooting at you I don't see the necessity. Warping doesn't give you a special attack from the air (assault SM) it only helps you to travel faster, spot enemy and deep strike enemies when needed.

I guaranty you, using a warp spider won't be an easy task if the warping is implemented properly, don't add up an handicap to it.

Jabba, I understand where you are coming from, but I don't agree. If the warp jump mechanic is implemented correctly, then they will be a lot better than jump troops. Let me explain.

Jump troops are fast and nasty. We all have seen that in the streams. The thing to remember is that they have to present themselves as a target before they get to chop you to pieces. This jump time is being tweaked so that the jump troops "hang" from a bit so that normal troops can have a chance to shoot at them while they are in the air.
They can take damage or be killed outright before they reach their objective.

Warp Spiders will disappear from sight, make their move through the warp and could end up almost anywhere. All without being seen. This will upset the lesser races to a great degree :) . Imagine popping out of thin air behind an enemy squad, shooting them, then disappearing again before they can react in any organised fashion. For this awesomeness Warp Spiders must pay a price. The question is; what price is high enough to compensate for said awesomeness, while not ruining the fun of the class by killing the Warp Spider too easily or arbitrarily?

As Dragonkindred says Warp jumps are not the same as jump packs.
A jump packing trooper is visible and can be shot at while jumping, a warp jumping trooper isn't.
    It's a totally different mechanic.

Also it's a mechanic that all the main 4 races have a version of.. Chaos have Warp Talons, Ork Mekboyz have Telyportas and marines have Grey Knight Interceptors , so yes, it may well be available to all the races.

Are Grey Knights even in the game?
  7. Nether Nether Master

They are not and based on what debs have said and designed I would bet they won't be in the game for a while after launch or if ever as they higher authority over other chapters, genetically superior to Marines and sit outside the normal Marine.

For imperium the only troop I can think of that has teleport is terminators, but they should have similar risks as spiders as they go thru the same medium.
  8. Quothe Quothe Subordinate

Nope, but then nor are Warp Spiders.. I'm only pointing out that all the main races (other than Tau) have a version of the warp jump.

Wouldn't Terminators be a better example?

Terminators teleport it's not similar to the spiders warp jump, for what I've seen in some books people on cruisers teleport terminators to determinated coordinates, they can just teleport themselves to avoid a wall or danger like warp spiders.
