Hello guys, sorry to be late to the party but it seems that there might have been some details about Chapters that was not communicated to Miguel after all. The subject of Chapter Creation is a sensitive topic and no final decision has been taken about it. I mean, as a Guild/Strikeforce you will be able to customize your appearance but our main goal is not to break the game overall feel by doing so. There might be a few variations we will try out during production, to test the extremes, and then pick up the best compromise. Games Workshop is really keeping a close eye on what we are doing on that side as they don't want us to break or weaken the lore in any sense. And the various Chapters are something pretty much at the core of this lore. So, we can't say for sure what you will be able to customize on your character and vehicles when creating your Guild/Strikeforce theme. We have lots of options and some of them already approved by GW, but we want to keep some options opened in order to adapt to the game as it evolves and also to players feedback.
Hopefully not allot, or at least not to the point where someone can actually mistake the chapter from which the guild/strikeforce hails. I think that would be a bad thing to witness.
As far as customization goes; all I want is This and This rather than This (yawn) and we'll be golden. Except with more Black Legion and possibly some Slaaneshy icons *pleading sounds*. I think Angry Joe and crew would be extremely satisfied if they had even a few uniform pieces and colour shifts. Actually that's my benchmark for success: Make the Ultramarines look cool
Two words: Water Transfers IMO the most simple and effective solution for guild diversity is to take inspiration from these table top decals and apply it in game. Marines for example will have their chapter's heraldry on one shoulder pad leaving the other open for their guild.
they also need their unit type. though that could be stuffed on the same shoulder pad as their guild decal. they ALSO need their company. the more the merrier i suppose...
You are nailing the challenge we have at the moment : ) We want (including GW) players to be able to roleplay their favorite Chapter/Company/Squad so both shoulder pads are kinda out of reach for Strikeforces. So we need to use other places which are less used are more flexible fluff-wise (like knee pads for example). Pieces of clothing might also be used but again it needs not to conflict with any other elements of clothing and armor. Like said, there are options, even context-sensitive options (i.e. On your ship vs on the battlefield), and we will see which ones make more sense as the game develops. We should take an official position on that topic though, as the option we prefer at the moment, and show that up to you guys for feedback. If only I could clean up those mockups so they are presentable...
Indeed - I kinda liked the idea of the backpack insigna since that's what you see most of the time in a Third-Person game. Kinda where a Guild Cape is also in Fantasy MMOs. The issue with a chestpiece is that you often hold your weapon in front of it - covering it. We were thinking of a small badge attached to the shoulder pad at a corner, so it doesn't hide all the company/squad symbols. Well, the best scenario would to find a place on the back and front of the character - or on the sides.
