VOIP became a failure, no?

I mean, it was the hail mary for closing the gap between PUGS and guilds, the thing PUGS lacked that made guilds so unfair in the eyes of many. If we only got voice communication, everything would be solved they said.

Well, did it? In the beginning, I experienced only 1-2 guys speaking and relaying information, but the last two weeks I barely come across that either. It's mostly people speaking in Russian now, chitchatting about something probably unrelated to the game.

I guess people overestimated people's willingness to play as a team despite previous experiences? I don't feel like VOIP changed anything, do you? :(

  2. VoIP clearly couldn't change anything. Nobody who has ever played a video game before would expect it to. If pubbies cared at all about teamwork and strategy they'd join a clan and stop being pubbies. Pubbies by definition are actively avoiding teamwork.

It's there as an option now at least.
Whether people use it or not is up to them.

Might be somewhat helpful to the game if guilds started using the in game VOIP instead of Discord now.

Might encourage more people to use communication and teamwork.
  4. No, no it wouldn't. It hasn't in the last thousand games with built-in VoIP and EC isn't going to magically be the first.

VOIP being a failure or success is 100 % reliant on the community using it. For me I have used it in pug v guild games and it has worked spectacularly.
Doubt your question will bring in real concrete answers, just opinions for now I suppose.

In my personal experience it did not change anything in 9/10 games. People who refuse to react to pings, to written text or to squadmarkers will refuse to follow spoken orders aswell. In the 1/10 games where it sparked a reaction it was 50/50. People following it or people complaining about it beeing too loud/low/wrong and ignoring it. In a very few cases i saw abuse of the feature by people throwing insults, shouting, or playing music, far less then i exspected.

My own conclusion is that like i personally exspected, people had high hopes for it but the problem was never the lack of tools but the players/community. LSM lose silently against PuGs and organized groups as before and far more then they should just because of the stupidity of the individuals thrown together.
  10. All people ever do with volp is curse the team off. Well atleast thats what always happens on my end. Its useless
