I know that many game have something similar: but this one is one of the best i have found in a game. The voice Guided System http://smite.gamepedia.com/Voice_Guided_System An identical system can help greatly the comunication in a game like EC: the VGS can become a "universal traslator" for all the localized language of the game. At first sight can appear complicate, but it's not: it's easy to talk and communicate really fast and also during a combat. obviusly this is not a moba, so it's needed a filter for the pubblic chat, but in particolar think about what can do a squad leader or a strikeforce leader with something like that. for example the strikeforce leader press "VC3AC1" and a voice tell to squad 3 "squad 3 attack capture point one" and at the same time the strikeforce leader ping also the position to the squad 3. or another example a squad member see some devastator and can ping to all the squad the position "VCH" "take cover enemy heavy weapon spotted!" in some case can be faster than talking (because you don't need to explain where is target you dont need to check the compass: simply look at and press 3 key.
A fleshed out "VGS" could benefit EC for sure. There's many people who either don't have fast enough internet for a headset, have a broken headset (me lol), are too shy to talk or, or like you said just don't have enough time to talk. Actually, I'll stop listing reasons we need this, there's too many and you already gave a perect explanation for anyone else. We need this done right.
I would very much prefer of voice acted call outs like that. I don't need to hear other players key their mics on, or sound like robots, or sound like they are in a wind tunnel, or their kids crying in the background, or their bass drop, or the song they think is funny to play over the mic several times, or their heavy breathing...and so on. In Planetside 2, the only thing I listen to is the platoon leaders commands. I like to choose to get into voip though for certain fights with people I know who arent total asshats, friends, or clan mates...just no public voip, I have never....ever....everrrrrr heard anything urgent or useful from it...ever and I now have over 300 hours+ of play in Planetside 2.
I agree that such a system would be useful, even though I prefer to use voice comms sometimes I can't and it's nice to have something like that to fall back on. Though as far as UI goes I'm somewhat partial to the Battlefield series' commo rose, mostly due to being used to it. A well-coded (and minimalist, there's no need to clog my screen with fancy animations) commo rose can quickly and efficiently allow access to a large number of commands without having to deeply nest menus. Project Reality's is a good example. Generally you don't have to go through any nested menus to reach your command, though some commands do have options (such as request kit-><list of kits> or deploy structure-><list of structures>). It also has a small degree of context-sensitivity, but avoids being obnoxious, intrusive, or uncooperative with it. Also, it uses plain easy to read white-on-dark-gray tiles with no necessary animations or particle effects. Excellent minimalist design.
That's definitely a cool system. I could see abuses of the system becoming just as intolerable as an open mic playing music. I think I'd rather just have people speak to me in the long run.
I understand where you are coming from, anyone who has played a multiplayer game with voice chat probably has gone through exactly the same thing. That being said, I would still like to see public/direct VOIP with an option to mute a varying list of categories or all together for that matter if you so desire. In my mind having it along side the option to mute it is far more important then not having it at all. More on topic, I do like the idea of something along the lines of the commo rose or even Red Orchestra 2's version with an expanding list of command options as you work your way outside the communication wheel. Have contextual options depending on what you are looking at, more/less options depending on if you are just a grunt, leading a squad or commanding multiple squads. Being able to quickly go through and select what you need with your mouse as opposed to trying to remember key button patterns has always been much easier and faster, for me at least. http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=341778891 http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=341778940
Actually I think there have been other threads like this. Unless you are being sarcastic about us beating a dead horse or something lol. The first thread (I could find at least) on Oct 18, 2013 https://forum.eternalcrusade.com/threads/voice-support-and-text-chat-in-game.376/ How to handle proxi chat shennanigans: https://forum.eternalcrusade.com/threads/proximity-voice-chat.23137/ Example Soundboards for a commo rose https://forum.eternalcrusade.com/threads/40k-audio-clips-and-soundboards.3071/#post-121930
They can put a limit to how often you can shout commands. In Planetside 2 they give you 3 times and then you have to wait a certain amount of time until you can use it again. It's only a short amount, but it prevents people from spamming.
the big difference is that with the voice guided sistem you can still shoot aim and look around you witout somethin that cover the centre of the visual. when a player use the vgs after little practice become all automated and intuitive and therr is no need to look at the menu. so for example VVH can become "I need healing" and all the apothecary around see a red cross on the minimap: no need to look at a menu you simply press VVH because you remember the command. the problem with the VGS is the pads, it's a keyboard friendly sistem but smite will come to xbox one and they will adapt thr sistem to pads.
