I think they need to focus less on bringing new players and focus on what they already have. Let me explain.

So I own a business, purchased it 8 months ago. It was a shit show when I bought it, old owner gave up on it admittedly and said she couldn't seem to care anymore. So I took it over. First thing everyone around me says is "time to advertise!! U gotta fix the old reputation of that place and fast, get Internet advertising, radio, papers, etc".

Horrible idea. Worst mistake you can make in business is to purchase a failing product/service/business and advertise it as being better than what it already is. I didn't advertise a thing for 6 months until I got the standards up to par, reliable, honest employees (fired 75 percent of the old staff), and changed the procedures and the way everything was done. Moved it to a new building, renovated and only now am I advertising. The worst thing you can do is bring new customers/clients into a broken and unfunctional situation. The people who are dedicated to going to you either are blind, don't care, or don't know any better that there's a better service/product out there for them. The new customers are usually people you are stealing from competition. So you better damn well make sure you wow them when you get them brought over to try you out.

TBH, I don't think this game is ready for F2P. They're gonna piss off a huge customer base and they will never come back. Whether or not they do it indirectly or not isn't the point. If you got holes in your ship, bale the water out first before you take on more passengers.

    My two cents.

as a primarily guild player i disagree with some of the stuff said here but i think we can all agree that clans that go around Tbagging and salting the chat afterwards dont need to be here. they should be playing something more akin to the displayed maturity level, like COD. really sad to hear that people form clans for schoolyard shit :/ *sorry for late response*

Yup no point in even talking about it now, the soft launch WAS the chance to increase the player base and that was Sealclubbed to death, nothing to see or discuss in EC, there will be no magical influx with todays F2P launch.

Indeed. It's as old as online multiplayer gaming.

Many games companies eventually learned that on public servers groups should face groups of similar sizes, filling the rest of each team with randoms. Meanwhile BHVR has their head in the sand.

    A pity.

If we had group matching and size limits for public games, almost everyone would benefit*. Guilds could actually face a reasonable challenge fielding a group that would face a similar group on the opposing team. Random players would be less likely to get steam rolled and might consider joining guilds, instead of seeing them as an obstacle to public fair play. New players would have more incentive to stick around. Small guilds would have an opportunity to grow in skill and size until they can field a proper team for more guild versus guild matches.

Fairer public matches. More opportunities for guilds to fight guilds. That's a win for almost everyone.

Gotta say, the original reason for why I joined a guild was because as orks, we were frequently outnumbered at the start of matches. Having the enemy team instantly capitalise on our lack of manpower until 5 minutes in filled me with a distinct edginess.

And even now, DLB is often (though not nearly as often as before, admittably) outnumbered for several minutes into the match, which makes us all put our gamefaces on out of sheer necessity. As far as I am aware, a lot of ork-players joined guilds for the same reasons.

If you disallow us to team up, you demand from us to be outnumbed for the most crucial parts of the matches again. I don't want to go back to those times :(

    It's so odd...

This is one of those few times where I'm so good at a game...I have to play badly for the newer guys.

On a more positive note, as a garrison lurker I've had quite a lot more people to play with/train/teach. That makes me happy.

Remember to wear your best shinies early in the match when all the newbs will see you. Deploy your best looking Vet right away even if it's not tactically sound. We need em to want to stay and spend RTC. 40K is all about the customizable looks and cool shit.
