Contrary to popular belief, they do actually make a small difference. You can survive slightly longer with the extra loadout points. And for the most part, the enemy can definitely notice it. You are significantly harder to kill in most cases. Not by a lot, but certainly noticeable. The devs need to be careful here since vets do actually disrupt a bit if the balance of the game. I have yet to see anyone try to pull a full vet squad yet, but that time will come. And, if it's a Conspiracy of Tzeentchian Havocs, or a flock of Slaaneshi Raptors, it's going to be straight pain. Again, you may not see a huge change, but in terms of team play and what the enemy sees, it is significant.
Heh! That's not true! Our warlocks add... brown? copper? to their tunics. And they change their craftworld rune to Ulthwé because reasons. Yes, I want to cry too. Fun fact: Dire Avengers had more red gems with the upgraded armor, but they have been losing them with each new patch. Now there's not difference.
The sole reason I will never use Advanced Warlock armour until that's fixed. I am Biel-tan not Ulthwe...
Balance will definitely start to get iffy, when exarch only weapons are put in. Dire Avengers with melee weapons, or Banshees with Executioners etc.
It will be cool, if we have abillity to spend 2000 LP on Veteran. And we can use it 2 times only, it will be worth.
I think a lot of the feeling of "I'm not much better than normal" with veterans comes from there just not being all that much wargear that youre going to fit into a veteran build that you dont fit into a standard loadout. The main difference is on the back end, your stats. Most of the veterans I see dump points with an iron halo which doesnt really change your gameplay experience much. There arent a ton of wargear options that would offer a different playstyle that you can equip with the extra points.
I'm looking forward to the deployment changes. The devs need to walk a fine line between making vets interesting and vets becoming overpowered, so I don't expect massive changes (not that I can take a vet yet myself). Veterans might become more of an issue as their availability throughout the player base increases, so I'm curious how that will play out.
