I want this feature a lot. I think it would be really, really cool. I can't think of any other game that does this, so I'm all for it. I'd like that too.
Vehicle Embarking/Disembarking animations: Anyone who played Planetside 1 remembers this feature. It was more than cosmetic as it changed the way the game was played...for the better. In Planetside 2, you just magically teleport into vehicles. This makes for very lame, unrealistic gameplay. In Planetside 1, it actually took you a few seconds to enter/exit vehicle. This meant that if you were in a firefight & were about to die in a vehicle you had to take that few extra seconds into account. You couldn't just magically exit, denying the opposing players the kill. Additionally, while these animation occurred the player could be killed while attempting to enter/exit vehicle. I would hope a game being released in 2015 could implement features that were available in 2003.
I remember that we once had a thread about this in GD. Long time ago. oh memorys. but yes that would be awesome.
Weeeeell... PS 1 was an unplayable mess when it came out, and nearly no server could handle it at the time, so...
I agree on release it certainly had its performance issues. Then again, Planetside 1 was revolutionary for its time. It had to overcome obstacles BE does not. The technology available now blows away what they had to work with back then. I'd also like to believe that the programmers/artists we have are more educated/experienced than 11 years ago & the tools they have are more sophisticated. Its these "useless", minor detail features that make games memorable. If BE's intent is truly to make players feel like a soldier in the 41st millennium, then immersion should be a top priority.
Agreed. I cannot count how many times I've seen gameplay or trailers where I quietly thought to myself "This looks advanced and well-designed... But where's the soul?" The opposite can happen, too. Sonic Boom is a good example of that.
We've had very long discussions about this and the implications it would have for open-topped vs closed vehicles and how it would affect gameplay, especially to the Orks. The main gist of the discussions were speed entering/exiting and people being able to take damage/take cover on top of vehicles. I'll try to find the post. Edit: I thought we'd discussed it more, but this is the thread I was talking about. https://forum.eternalcrusade.com/threads/open-topped-vehicles.42274/
