What I need for an animation of executions:

    1. Likely some artistic assets, 3d models and the like, with props. Swords, guns, pointy sticks. Power fists, power claws, you name it. Blank characters are fine too.
    2. Those characters need to be rigged up yeah?
    3. A animation program would be fine, I already have a copy of Maya though, so it isn't super necessary, unless you guys simply prefer something different.

I can do animations all day long with that batch of requirements. This is even better because I'm getting my degree in animation and illustration. In about 2 years, you guys may be getting a resume from me ;)

Not an animator but if given a program to do yea sure why not give it a try

Like a lot of people have said in the thread, all I would need is the models and other art assets. I use 3ds max for animating, but if you guys have your own program that you use I'd be happy to check it out.

If models are pre-rigged I would be the happiest little Chaos Marine in the galaxy :D

I do a lot of animation mostly with Maya but I'm sure I can learn 3DS in no time. Mostly in order to make an animation I would need any rigged 3D model. At the very least I would need the rig that you guys are using for your models if you wanted the animations to be easily applicable to the 3D models you guys are using. Otherwise we'd be making rigs and animations that you probably wouldn't be able to use.
  5. If I were given a free animation software and the assets to work with, I would gladly attempt to create an animation so long as either A) The software is simple enough for me to figure it out after some experimentation, or B) It features enough of a tutorial that I can go back and reference it when I'm confused about something.

I think thats a contets thats too complicated for most users.
    Writing a story is ok.

Maybe draw a schema (paint ^^) of how you imagine the animation would be ok.
  7. I don't have experience or the programs but I'd love to try!
Basically what everyone else said about the program, models, rigging, and a basic how to would be what I need.
  8. For those wanting an easy to use but powerful animation software package Irecomend SFM. to top it off its free.
  9. I use Autodesk 3ds Max for animation. As others have mentioned I'd need the character models along with any accessories that would be potentially used in the animation (weapons and the like). It would be preferable if the models were already rigged.

    Hi Katie!

Yes, I am able to create animations. I have a student version of Autodesk Maya, version 2013. The most basic thing I suspect the animators wishing to participate in the contest would require is a rig similar or even identical to the ones used in the studio. For example, if we are animating a Space Marine, then a humanoid rig is provided, and if it's a Tyranid, then a Tyranoid (?) rig is provided. Obviously, if the studio is willing to release their most updated models and rigs to the animators, that would be great (but not recommended)!

If somehow Maya is unsuitable, then I suppose I would not mind trying a new software. A stable download is all that is necessary.

Finally, yes and yes! I would be interested in creating execution moves!
