Unique Weapons are Great.

Discussion in 'General Discussion' started by Ravage, Oct 4, 2016.

  1. Unique gameplay makes things interesting if its balanced well, I hope in the future they add more little things like this.

The other side, the more unique items the harder it is to balance. This also starts to go into the realm of vertical progression, which to me isn't really a problem

  2. OFF TOPIC: That much gold trim on the Dark Angel looks heretical.

ON TOPIC: The problems are deeper than simply the Lascannon.

-No shooting on move penalties when using scopes/optics. This applies to all weapons with scopes and optics.
-No shooting on the move penalties for overcharging Plasma Weapons, similar overcharge/aiming mechanic as Lascannon.
-Obvious sniper mode Zapgun and upgraded Lascannon.

  3. Agreed 100%.
  4. All points true, and yes I main apothecary and the gold and white look very good. After playing with the gold trim a couple times for all green Dark Angels it does look bad now that I think about it.

I dont mind that the penalties are gone when using scopes, since scopes seem to be in such a shitty place at the moment. The zoom is too much, not variable and just hurts. If you had an option to do the normal zoom and the scope zoom then I think adding movement penalties would be something to consider. Overall scopes just need changing to be honest, though I like the game how it is without scopes everywhere.(my opinion comes from mainly using a boltor)

I do think for the PC you should have to be standing for it to be pin-point while the Plasma Gun for the tactical should naturally be more accurate and able to be shot while moving.

Abbadons grace kinda does the same thing: super accurate long range hits that apply a dot. Although the base dmg is high enough that it just feels like an AC with a really cool bullet travel animation.
  6. Abbadon's grace is only a bagilion times better than this, it has no lock on, very good RoF and kills anything in 2-3 hits, it might even do more vehicle damage but i can't say it for sure.

General principal is the same minus the lock on. They are both accurate long range fast kills with a dot.
  8. not at all dude look at these scenarios:

    Abbadon's Grace:

Guy is moving from cover to cover at a long range: Hit him with one or two shots every time he get's out of cover, he's dead.

Guy is 1-2 charged attacks away from with a melee weapon: Laugh at his face and melt him down under fire.

    Burning Light:

Guy is moving from cover to cover at a long range: good luck getting a lock-on.

Guy is 1-2 charged attacks away from with a melee weapon: good luck getting a lock-on.
  9. This is, in my opinion, a very badly designed weapon. The lascannon in this game was always supposed to be an anti-vehicle weapon that is hard to use on infantry. The lock-on time, the decreased mobility, the laser-pointer giving away your position, all of these were supposed to encourage the player to use it in it's intended role: dedicated anti-tank while still powerful against infantry if you're skilled enough to hit them.

Let me be clear, I do not think that having an anti-infantry sniper weapon of some sort is a bad idea, and I agree with the sentiment of unique weapons being interesting and fun. What I disagree with is the subversion of a weapon's entire design philosophy to shoehorn in such a weapon.

  10. Never played SM on TT but pretty sure you could shoot infantry just the same with it as shooting a Vehicle.

I have no issue with it. *shrug*
