just because it works in TT won't mean it works well in a game. TT has specific rules made for it to work.

also in TT you don't have to worry about vehicle crew, it's just a tank. In the game, where they want vehicle to be multi-crewed, you will need at least 4 additional players per vehicle. Lore wise a Leman Russ tank has a crew of 6, they'll probably won't have it like that but you'll still need a number of people to operate one.

and as amazing as we might hope/think this game will be, i really don't have a doubt in my mind that the eventual population really won't be that big. so adding a faction that heavily relies on numbers won't work when we already have 4 other faction, 1 of which ALSO relies a lot on large numbers.

    Here we go.

Wiki stuff down below, a reason why an imperial faction such as SoB would even fight space marines, it is due to different religious views, there is fluff one can use to give it an exception towards them fighting each other, the question is how well written will the reason be towards them fighting each other.

Well they said the Ork Boyz wont be piss poor vs a space marine, perhaps eldar ork and IG can copy each others survivability, with a bit twist to it, perhaps the IG get higher survivability the more of them work together instead of lone wolfing it.

In the wake of the chaos and anarchy of the Horus Heresy, the Temple of the Saviour Emperor provided a message of reunification through a common faith. Cults who rejected being absorbed, or who couldn't be absorbed, saw themselves being persecuted by fanatical mobs. Officially, the Temple rejected this violence performed in its name. This development culminated in M32 as almost two-thirds of the Imperium followed the teachings of the Temple, the exceptions being the Space Marines and the Adeptus Mechanicus, who had their own form of worship. The Temple's importance, influence, and power rapidly outmatched any other Imperial cult.

Eh, the thing isn't why they started fighting, but rather, why they STILL would be fighting. Surely, they SOMEONE would have been given the order to stand down.

They all have orders, even if they want to stand down they follow their own agendas, what if there are emperor relics on the planet?

I think the adeptus ministorum who worship the emperor as a god would step over anyones dead bodies to get their hands on something that can empower their own agenda by new heights, space marines knowing this following their own religious view can not allow them to gain more power as tensions are only tolerable for now and mutually respectful " fluff there too", and the space marines seeing the emperor as their father in a sense can not see this despicable act to be followed up.

Hence they fight each other and the winner gets the relic´s, the chapters get it to protect it and seal it up, the adeptus ministurom the SoB want to use it as an item of what their god once used.

As i typed up the fluff has some support to it, maybe not super strong but it is there, the question is as i stated: How well will the reason be towards why they fight each other, "as for why they still are fighting." Maybe they will go into an alliance if the game allows it to put their reasons of war behind them for the time being?

it is tricky, you got to consider the reasons to support the variables as well as the games allowance and limitations to put down in it for balancing reasons, as well as the fluff most as well be able to support it to some degree also, we dont want a matt Ward touch and go on this.

Just brainstorming a bit, and even if my suggestion is bad to a degree and not likeable, something is with all certainty agreeable and usable to launch us forward into the thoughts, trying different angles, fail a lot achieve a bit and then we combine and move forward for a final approach, taking into consideration everything on the table which limits us and also allows us.

Believe me, brainstorming is great! Especially this early in the game development. HOWEVER

"Hence they fight each other and the winner gets the relic´s, the chapters get it to protect it and seal it up, the adeptus ministurom the SoB want to use it as an item of what their god once used."

ONE word from Malcador or even the council of terra to stop fighting and it HAS to end. Otherwise, you are going rogue, which in the imperium, is a no-no. I wouldn't mind seeing NPC's of those factions though.

I guess implementing Guard and Marines as playable options in MMO will be... difficult. Unless Guard is vehicle-faction where you spend most of your miserable life sitting in a tank, repairing a tank, or dying under some idiot tank driver's tracks.

That would be quite a blow, for the game cutting of a lot of cash flow and content by just saying IG, SoB are only NPC´s if one is considering it, on a personal note chaos is actually my second choice.

But i dont believe one would recall orders when you got such a high valued target, there has to be something of an bigger target then, to have them stay and fight each other.

There is a better story one can write of course, but we need fluff that can support a fight against them, everywhere i look it is the same.

"They respect each other, they dont fight each other, they believe quite hard in the emperor in their own way." and so and so forth and it goes like that, but we need to find a way to have them fight, the reason towards it, and here we can add our own idea´s and throw them up here.

What is your idea towards why they would fight each other, this is warhammer 40k almost anything would work within parameters that is.

Agreed. I mean, the DoW series seemed to find a good method of having a large group of people fight each other. The ONLY way I could see them fighting would be to have some sort of FREAK warp storm that clouds the astropaths from terra. This storm would have to be so massive that it surrounds the system so that not even Chaos forces know what is really going on. That would allow everyone to be in the dark initially as WELL as having a fancy tie in for why daemons become playable. Therefore, the SoB/IG would have to either surrender to the Space Marines will or keep fighting, which in this case they would fight(excluding alliances and whatnot).

I mean, blocking communications helped cause the Horus Heresy. I bet it could be used to create a fucking sweet story line as well! : ]

That would work actually, hence why the ships can not get away from there, all travel and communications are blocked of.

Now that we have established the warpstorm towards why even factions in the same race are fighting continually, what should we add for the reason towards the fight? what is the target.

Universal target to claim which all races and factions find tempting hence the gigantic gathering, or should we go for a more individual backstory for them all towards the why?

Option 3 we mix in a few races towards the same goal, for example relics of the emperor between the imperium of man, chaos and ork´s/dark eldar have their own agenda to follow, or should we mix it up with some having same agendas and others solo agendas?
